If you check the route on your body (take off the pickguard) you'll be able to find out whether or not you can fit a full size bucker. AFAIK most strats are routed H/S/H so you'd need to do some routing but some come with a 'swimming pool' route. If you decide you want a full size humbucker in the middle position you'll have to get a new (or modify your existing) pickguard.

The easier option is to get a humbucker single coil sized pickup. The only downside to those is that some guitarists claim (I have no personal experience with them) that they don't reproduce exactly the same tone.

Hot Rails For Strat SHR-1
High output single-coil-size "rails" humbucker. Great for classic rock, garage, punk, heavy rock, thrash, classic metal and nu-metal.

I'm not sure whether I'd put a humbucker in the middle position, it's generally accepted that they sound better in the bridge position. Very few people use the middle pickup by itself.

Hotrails might be a little to high output compared to
cluster_one's other pickups (neck & bridge).
Maybe he could try a Duckbucker in the middle.

Yeah, I agree the duckbucker might be a good option. You wouldn't wanna overpower anything.

The Dimarzio HS-2 is a nice balance between single coil & humbucker sounds also.

Let us know what you decide on.

Just a suggestion for a different way to go, for your underused middle position. There's many different ways to wire single-coil Strats for alternative sounds.

For example, you could buy a Megaswitch. A lot less expensive than a new pickup, and I suspect that you'd not get as much use out of a humbucker in the middle as you might think. It ain't the ideal place for a high output pickup.

Here's a page about the Megaswitch:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics ... tches.html

You'll see from that bottom-right diagram that you can wire the middle selector position to give you a neck-and-bridge combination, which Some find more useful than middle on it's own.

Or check out the Superswitch for other options:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics ... ml#details

Or go take a look at some wiring diagrams at Seymour Duncan's website:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/

Some interesting options for SSS Strats there, without the need to reroute for a humbucker...

Stuff to think about, anyway.

Cheers - C

Or a stacked 'bucker, that would do the job.
