What strat do you recomend for a good player because I plan on getting a new one in a few months because I'm basically broke right now.

Help,

Hello GuitaristC,

Start test driving them now,
play as many as you can,
collect all the info you can,
it'll help make a better
informed choice.

The thrill of the chase,
can be quite rewardeing.

Cheers.

If you're broke and need to spend the last amount as possible, try looking into a used MIM strat. They're $400 brand new, a used one should be between $200 - $300, or less. Good guitars, well built, will last forever.

If you can afford more, get a new one, or try the Highway One like leo said, or a Player's strat. Want to save more? Get the American. They never lose their value if you take care of them. They'll always get what you paid for them new, and the really old ones go for much more. Like Les Pauls, great guitars and great investments as well.

I have put together a comparison of most of the current Stratocaster models, maybe that's helpful for you.

You just gotta try out every single one you can get your hands on.

It took me a couple months to find the right Strat back when I was lookin' for my first. My second didn't take quite as long, because I had an idea of what would feel "right," but I still tried every Strat in Guitar Center. I found 2 that I liked, but out of my price range (V-Neck Am. Del. and EC Sig). I did some research online, found some interesting MIMs (Classic Series and Classic Players). Daddy's Junky Music had a Classic Players '50s (as well as a Fender Special Edition FSR5760, which Guitar Center never knew existed) used. Tried it out, liked it, layaway until payday. Granted, it wasn't a true V-Neck (described as a "smooshed" V), but it has a very nice feel, similar to my '95 - '96 MIA Std.

If financial issues are a problem, don't rule out checking your local shops for a pre-owned Stratocaster. There are many good deals out there and eventually you could upgrade with a good trade-in value.

Very true; I bought all my main electrics used. On the MIA, I upgraded the pups. On the MIM, I replaced all the electronics. I'm thinking about looking into Callahan Trems as well...

Ther's a place called Ciderville by where I live and they hve insane prices EX. Highway One is 699.99. Bad thing is they don't have much selection. The GC center has selection but is more expensive where do I go? I Also want a guitar that can is made for a vintage rock sound.

I had been overlooking a funky little music store in my area then fell in one day to walk out with an American Deluxe Strat with all the trimmings for a flat 9 bills. What a happy day that was, so ya never know what lurks in 'Ma & Pa' music stores. Oh, it was a 50th anniversary to boot.

Not sayin' American Deluxe Strat is the only way to go but having tried/seen all the other models/countries of origin, ADS is the only way I'd go.

Cheers,

GuitarZon

Try 'em all out and see which one(s) you like best. My experience was finding a MIM at a local GC that spoke to me right off the bat. Of all the Strats I've ever test-driven, this one spoke the sweetest. Plus, it was less than half the price of the more "fancy" ones with better pedigrees. GAS is fun! Enjoy finding the one for YOU.
