Getting back to the flash coat anyone else here find it chips really easily?
It is never a problem I have with the std nitro .... :D

I've had 4 of the post 2012 AV's for a couple of years now and haven't experienced chipping in the finish (they all get played and gig'd). I have to say, the nitro flash-coat on these models is very robust. I say that because - in trying to remove a faint stain a dyed leather strap left on my Sonic Blue '59 AV - I've gone as far as a concentrated rubbing of the stained area of the finish with rubbing alcohol (I know, I'm a maverick!). That was only after heavy elbow-grease treatments of the swirl and haze-removing polishes did nothing to affect the stain. The alcohol treatment made the stain a bit more faint but the flash-coat finish in the treated area still appears to be all there.

So basically what we have here, ladies and gents, is Fender's take on the Squier Vintage Modified series.....In fact, Squier's new line up appeals to me more than Fender's newest offerings.

I have been watching a few of the NAM videos of the Fender stand and it would seem the relic is far from dead. Just an aside really.

As has been said already, this is just another marketing ploy.

Obviously the AVRI's have been around for a bit now and they can't continue to promote the same product so it had to be changed. And the change was....put the wrong radius on the neck because people obviously weren't buying the authentic re issues because they didn't like the authentic radius.

It is pretty much the same as changing the name of the American Standard to American Professional. That way people will buy the new product, with the new name, because they need to have the new version. There may, or may not, be that much different in reality (and being a Strat you could swap the bits any way) but, being "New", the marketing guys can make a bit of a song and dance about it.

Give it a couple of years and the "New" product will be the new "Original" with period correct neck radii - "Wont that be an AVRI then?" "Dont be silly, of course not."
