I use all the chords, including open chords.
There are times when a barre or a triad doesn't have the right voice.
It might very well be the correct chord but it just sounds ..... wrong.
Many times, open chords are not simply the best choice, they're the only choice.
Consequently, I do occasionally use a capo.

I'm liking that Thalia one but there is no WAY I'm shelling out that kind of coin for a capo.
They need make one in Plain Jane Vanilla with no fancy inserts.
Looking at their pricing I get the impression the inserts are where the money is.

agree 100%,, some times, the capo does just make it right when playing acoustic / singing.. etc.. I dig the open capos, esp. with a regular and a modified one. cool stuff.

Thailia from time to time will have some sales where they will sell refurbs or 2nds on the web site. the 2nds are just cosmetically not 100%, so that may be an option. I did have the same impression - too expensive, then I decided, wth, lets try one. it was around 70 UDS,, not cheap.. but I found in the long run as a solo performer, it was worth it. much cleaner intonation

Good example right here.

30 years ago I decided to learn this one up.
I found this exact sheet music and learned the song quickly but it never sounded right.

I soon figured out if I played my B as an open G shape with a capo on 4 then all was as it should be.
The capo left all four of my digits available to do the little fill-run in the C shape, making it so much easier and better sounding than finding another work-around solution.
If you play any covers there is an excellent chance you're going to come across a song you just can't do properly without a capo.
Well, that's been my experience, anyway.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

that is a great example of the proper solution of a song that works just right when using a capo. There are 100s more I can site, but what's the point.

Most of us have been playing for many years, (about 50 here) and,, pretty sure know all the chords I need to know! :)

some call it a cheat - what ever.. to others, it is simply a tool to use when needed.

I swear by the G7th Performance Capo. Very easy to use, in my opinion.

Me too.

I’ve used others, but I’m sold on the G7th which I’ve had for a while. It works well on my Strat and Taylor acoustic. It is built to last, and with replacement rubber available and a lifetime warranty it will outlast me. It’s easy on the eyes. Most of all it just works easy peasy.

I also have and like the G7th it is very easy to use. The The Performing Capo is pretty crazy, no need to learn how to use your fretting hand. Now if some feel just using a capo is cheating, what will they say about this

I've had the Quick Draw for a week now and have used it every day trying to see if it was worth the money or not. I played a bunch and really have to say, I like it. Yes, it does take a little time (2 minutes) to set up, but once that's done you just leave it on the nut. For me it makes moving the capo up or down the neck real easy and fast. I can change positions without missing a beat. True, one week of playing two hours a day is not a lifetime of testing, but it's good enough for me. I want to get another one for my Les Paul. I'll wait until I have at least a month of playing with this before I order another. Thanks for all the post on capos. I learned a lot from reading them.

Good to hear your capo is working out for ya, Ron.

I still have an elasticized capo that I used for my 12 string back in the 60s. It still works, but it’s no Cadillac. More like a beater. I’ve seen an elastic and a pencil work the same.

I wish I could barre chord; but, it’s always appreciated to have that capo option. :D
