I recently purchased a Special Edition Koa Strat on eBay. I know, caveat emptor, let the buyer beware. It is, as advertised, in like new condition, however, the volume control is bad. It has dead spots & cuts in and out. Have to tap it sometimes to get it to work. I suspect that this is a quality control problem since I had to tighten several loose components including the tuning gears. Made in Korea.

This guitar is actually a gift. I need to get the volume control replaced ASAP. I live in the Philadelphia area (Lansdale/North Wales) and need an expert guitar tech to replace the volume control without damaging this "like new" gift. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try this part of the Fender Site to get your started:

http://www.fender.com/support/service_centers/

I live in the San Francisco area, and when I was trying to find some guitar techs, I started with the Fender Service Centers. I found three in my immediate area, using the site. I went to each one, trying to find one that I liked best. I had two guitars that needed work, so I split them up between two guitar techs, so I could get a feel for their work. The third guitar tech is one who does work for Santanna, and the prices were too high for me.

By doing this.....I found one that had reasonable prices and did good work, as well. He's now "my man". I'm sure there might also be others around as well.

You live in Philly, a big city, so I'm sure you should have no problem finding one.

Oh yeah.......just because they're Fender Service Centers, it does not mean that they only work on Fenders. These guys are local guitar techs that do work for Fender. They also work on all other brands of guitars. At least......the three that I tried, worked on about everything.

Hello DrGregC,

You might ring up
Guitar Villa in Quakertown
a short ride up the pike.

Replacement of all 3 pots
I'd reccomend.

Cheers.

Thanks for all of your help. In this case, time was of the essence. I needed the repair to be done ASAP since the guitar is a gift to be given this weekend.

Through a friend locally, I got the name of Rob Martyn at D-Town Guitars in Doylestown, an authorized Fender dealer. Rob did a great job including a mini set-up for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended!
