Hey guys,

I was browsing ebay and saw this post: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Stratoc ... 2976250757

The guy says it's from the 80's or so, it looked like a Nitro Satin for me but I'm far from being an expert :D

Does anyone know which model it is? And from which year?
Would love to know how you can tell by looking at the picture.

Thanks!!

With noiseless pu it is not '80 or it is a mod ?

Serial number will tell year

Starting bid a $1200

You can find same at $1000 or less anywhere

Yeah, I've seen those Nitro Satin go for 600-900 on ebay.. that's probably the next strat I'll try to snatch but I found this one and I was wondering what is it.. says it has a sync trem.

All Stratocaster have sync tremolo.

We need serial number, first letter or digits.

Is it you first Strat ?

I may be wrong but don't ALL Strats have staggered middle screwholes on the trem backplate ?
Also, the only case I personally saw of a CBS style large headstock logo on a small headstock , was on one of the 2 knob Dan Smith Strats with the output jack where the second tone knob should be and a factory fitted Kahler , but they didn't get the headstock shape right , it was thinner widthways and a different shape ..they used up left over big logos, but usually trimmed them down to fit , like this example

Some haven a one big hole.

Here it is a vintage style but screw hole don't match for a fender tremolo spring cover

He's asking about the screw holes. Not the string holes.

I do not consider myself to be the forum expert at spotting a fake but there are a number of things about this guitar that make me nervous.
Hopefully the forum experts will show up here and look closely and either confirm or deny my areas of concern.

Walnut plug
Flame neck
Abalone markers
Bridge and saddles
The roughness of the curves of both horns
The mismatch of white and parchment
Rear cavity cover

No expert evaluations from me, just opinions...

Without going to details, I get a Partscasterish feeling about this guitar.

IMHO, very detailed info and a substantial price drop would be absolute preconditions to wake any serious interest.

I don't profess to be an expert but Ted J and BMW-KTM correctly point out issues (not sure if the dots are abalone or just bad pics).

Non-Fender body and neck.

Not 100% sure, but it looks like a partscaster.

Stay away from that guitar.

Could get burned on this one.

There is nothing necessarily wrong with it being a Partsocaster
Not from the standpoint of playing it.
I made one and it has become my Number One guitar of all time.
I like it better than anything else I have ever owned.
Of course, that was the point.
I built exactly what I wanted, the way I wanted it.

You want to know that for sure though ... before you lay out your coin.

Know it's not all OEM.
Pay an appropriate (reduced) price for a non-original guitar.
Understand it will never have as much resale value as a genuine article.
Enjoy the fruit of someone else's dream and labour.
Who knows?
It could be killer for all we know.

Nothing wrong with partsocasters. But that one is seriously overpriced. Partsocasters with labeled premium necks and bodies (Warmoth, Edenhaus/B. Hefner) rarely sell for a grand. Even with non-matching Fender necks and bodies that's pushing it.

The body is super cheapo. Cheap bridge. Might sound great, but you could buy great used parts and put them together yourself for much less.

If you could play it and to your ears it was the best sounding guitar ever, and to your fingers the best player ever, and you can just tell you'll never sell it, then maybe it'd be worth it.
