Received my EOB Strat on Tuesday. The 3 position toggle for fundamental/5th harmonics locked up. Took it in for warranty repair less than 24 hours after I pulled it out of the box!

I'm bummed, new $1100 guitar with issues when shipped!

I blame the tech at the shop who set it up. He should have noticed the switch was sloppy. When I got the guitar I noticed the switch felt bad, but i was in denial, until it locked up and wouldn't move! I didn't really have the time to test out the sustainer functions.

The neck is beefy! Much like the Music Man Shilouette that I had. I hope it doesn't take too long to get it back.

Has anyone else had issues with the sustainer? When I called Fender they mentioned they had reports of "issues" with the system.

I'll let you know how the warranty repair turns out.

It is a fairly new model that was only released several months ago.
Unless I missed an important post you are the first person from this community to declare publicly that you own one.

I am very interested in hearing about your issue and how it works out for you and what you think of the guitar once it is working properly.
This model is on my RADAR.
I might have already taken the gamble on it if it were not for the colour.
When I factor in the effort and cost of a refin it puts the price point too far out of reality for me for basically a MIM with a special circuit.

I understand your reservations on buying this model. The reason(s) for my purchase outweighed the negatives. The negatives included the cost but I looked at the expense of buying the Fernandes kit and having it installed or trying to do it myself without the knowledge, experience, or proper tools. I figured the cost of the actual guitar in line considering the JB jr. / Texas Special pickups. I've been playing for over 50 years and I've come to prefer the single coils. I prefer the JB jr. to a full sized humbucker like the Fernandes kits include. The neck is fat! It feels a lot like the Ernie Ball Silloutte I used to have. I'd been wanting a sustainer and a fat neck, so this is perfect for me. Now, to get it repaired and back in my hands is the next hurdle. I took it in Wednesday and I not heard what Fender will do about the warranty repair. It's been a long 5 days!!

I'll add that the bridge springs are tightened WAAAY down. I didn't see anything in the literature but with the sustainer a hardtail like setup seems to be what they prefer. I like more of a floating setup, but I don't think it'll work on this model. I'll keep you posted.

Steve Vai doesn't seem to have problems with "Flo" ...that has a floating trem and a sustainer

I got an answer from Fender on my repair. The factory in Ensenada is closed for inventory and won't reopen until mid January. That means no parts will be available till the 2nd or 3rd week of January. So, I can expect to have the repair around the first part of Feb. 2018. The 2nd option is to return the guitar to Fender for a full refund.

Ordering online is always a bit of a gamble, so that's how this one came out.

There are no sustainer systems available for warranty repairs. Fender has offered to swap my guitar for a new one. That's fine with , but I won't receive it until the end of March or early April. Long wait, but it'll be worth it. It's a nice guitar and worth the wait.

Big ships turn slowly... But at least it's happening, so I wish you patience.

Here's some light reading while you wait: EOB Sustainer Strat Service Diagram

(Checked some pics of the Fernandes FSK-401 kit; to my ignorant eyes, it looks the same as the EOB board - but comparing every component ain't easy.)

I will be sure to check back here in a month or two.
It will be interesting to see if the replacement works as advertised.

It's been a long wait for you and I'm glad the replacement is in your hands. I'm interested to hear how this works out. Good luck!

I just got mine today! I'm wondering, for those who have them, what is the behavior of your pickup selector in the middle position? Mine sounds almost silent there. I can hear that the tone knob is still activated in the middle position, and I can faintly hear sound from the pickup, but it's basically muted. I only get usable sound level in the other 4 positions. What are the 5 positions when not using the Sustainer? Are they supposed to work like a typical Strat? Wondering if mine is broken. Thanks.

I posted about mine but no one answered. When the sustainer is on and the volume is all the way off I can still hear the circuit functioning. I was able to edit out the still audible circuit sounds pre-volume roll on for a song/project I was working on but don't know if this is what you get out of this setup or if I have a bad filter or ground connection. I can't find a schematic on this board anywhere or if the ones I've seen relate to this board anyhow. I also didn't know that in order to get any sound out of this guitar you had to have a good battery in it. I'm working on resolving that issue but it's going to take some experimentation I think until I get it figured out. I'm more or less ok with it now but this guitar is getting some upgrades and work before I'm satisfied. I think Fender should make some changes to this guitar right away. Like get rid of the vintage tuners for one. I'm not going to drift into that much further now though.

Lou, there's no schematic(its a proprietary device) for the EOB sustainer board & pickup itself, the info posted above by jmattis should help answer any questions you have as far as operation.
