So i have this Fender Stratocaster guitar which i traded for a quad bike like 15 years ago and now i want to sell it because i didn't really played it that much. Now the problem is it sais it's Texax Special and year is 2001 i think, but i can't find any texas special strat the same color anywhere... Is this strat even genuine? Please help if anybody knows more of this specific model or even has one... I'd like to sell it but don't know what's it worth... It has some scratches in the back as you can see... Does this affect the price significally? Thanks.

It is all original American Fat Strat Texas Special ( from Hot Rodded American Series ) as I see on 2001 Fender Frontline Mag/ catalog, page 34

That's not the "Fat" (= HSS) model (0117900/7902), it's an American Strat Texas Special 0117300/7302. Says so on the sticker, too.

The model was a direct continuum to the Roadhouse model - the main difference is the string trees (ASTS 1, Roadhouse 2...). 8)

Looks legit, looks good.

Edit: I don't have the 2001 Frontline, but the ASTS/Maple/Black (= 011-7302-706) is on the 2001, August 1 price list.

If you had the 2001 Frontline, you would see very well Fender call It American Fat Strat.
The HSS Strat name is American Strat Texas Special
The HH Strat is American Double Strat

With the years Fender plays so much on the name of the guitars that it's hard to follow.

I see many wrong name on adds on the web about Fender Guitar from people don't have Fender Frontline
To sell it I'll write ; SSS American Fat Strat Texas Special

There is one on e-bay a 2000 same as a 2001;

Nope. I'd be very surprised if the 2000 Frontline really says "Fat" is a SSS and ASTS is HSS. Should be the other way around.

In Fender lingo, "Fat" describes a guitar with HSS pickups. And "Double (Fat)" is for HH. There are HSS models that aren't called "Fat", and HH models which aren't "Double Fat", but all (Stratocaster) "Fats" I know of are HSS and all (Stratocaster) "Double Fats" HH.

I have the Frontlines from 2004 onwards only, but this is the logic in all of them. Just for example, quoting from 2004:
Quote:
”Stratocaster HSS 013-4700
The Standard Fat Strat features a one humbucking/two single coil pickup configuration.”

Check the price lists of 2001; there are both the ASTS (that's the guitar here, SSS) and the "American Fat Strat Texas Special" (HSS). Archived Fender Pricelists 1968-2010
And as BTW, the product registration serial number search engine says this serial belongs to an "American Strat® Texas Special™ (2000-2003)". No "Fat" there, either...

If I have time I post a picture of the Frontline page

Either way, if looking to sell I'd give the body a damn good buffing up with some car polishing gear as it will look a lot less tired. A lot of people do exactly that - buy a sad looking guitar, do no more than buff it up, and then sell for a good return.

In the UK the difference between that and "shiny shiny" could be £150 and it will be a lot easier to shift.

Well thank you all very much for the answers... If i understand right my model is in the middle of that catalog but the name is from the left one... I guess 800-900€ (900-1000$) should be fair price then or is it to high? I don't think i can buff out the scratches on the back they seem to deep...

I would have thought that in good condition, without polishing I'm thinking more like £/$/€700

Lots of belt buckle scratches on the back, we don't see the neck or frets .
A 16 years old guitar.

Yup, for future reference, in the Fender universe when you see the word "Fat" used in a guitar model name it always means humbucker.
Just in the model name, mind you.
The word "fat" is often used in written descriptions of guitars and also on many amplifiers.
When used as part of a guitar model name though, it means humbucker.

I would say $900 USA is about as much as that guitar would ever fetch .... on a lucky day .... on eBay, where prices are high already.

Around here if it was priced any higher than $1000 Canadian it would sit unsold for months.
$1,000 CAN = approx. $750-800 USA depending on daily fluctuations in the exchange rate.
$1K seems to be the tipping point in my neck of the woods for a typical USA Strat, barring any unusual features or particularly pristine condition.
Below $1K, it just might sell.
Above $1K, it's pretty much a forgone conclusion that the seller is out of touch with the market.
Anybody willing to spend more will usually browse Reverb and eBay.
Sellers asking more are usually spending too much time looking at prices on Reverb and eBay.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The lacquer is pretty thick. None of the scratches are showing wood underneath. Even reducing the impact by an amount will help a sale.

I would probably have a go with 2000 and up Wet'n'dry first but, if you don't feel up to that, some elbow grease and a tinted polish like Turtle Wax Colour Magic will help to fill and darken the scratches.
