I just saw Tommy Castro last night at the Pittsburgh Blues Festival. He was wailing on his 64' strat thru a 50's Super Reverb and he sounded awesome. He kept it pretty simple with a couple of pedals and instead of a sound man, they had an equalizer on stage that he would tinker with now and then. The other bands all used a soundman on stage that took half of their sets to get it right, Castro just did it himself and it sounded great. The lesson is keep it simple, run great equipment thru the PA and blow'em away!

A keepin' it simple Strat sounding pretty awesome? a '64? Here in Ontario '60 to '64 Strats are seen as Hendrix-style, widest and thinnest necks when Leo sold Fender. Free insiders tip: if you find a '72-'74 Squier, you've got a guitar manufactured on the old Fender Strat assembly line. The first Strat I saw used onstage was Jimi in Toronto '69. He first defined "The Axis" of sound. He talked about his equipment, everything else it seemed and inbetween... and got me floatin', while he repatched the effects between songs. Nothin' guitar here, but I'm glad I started out with the pick he was using.

Hey Gang-

I got the chance to meet Tommy Castro Back stage at the Coloma Blues Festival this past June. He is a great guy and we talked alot about gear. He keeps everything real simple. He said he had just started using the pedals and was still getting the feel of them.

He is a great player and a good guy to talk to.

Keep It Real-

The Freeze

His band was great too. The sax player plays a 1936 sax. Now that's vintage!
