Hello. I had this guitar since 2010. It is from a production line which ran from 1992 to 2003.

Frankly, I haven't played it probably since 2013. The Floyd Rose was too much of a hassle for me and I got a LP Studio at that point. It sat in its case for almost the entirety of this time.

I tried to sell it once back then, but the counter offers were too low. I decided to try again, and thus wanted to set it up for presentability. Now, I remembered it being in very good, completely playable condition, and as I haven't touched it all this time, I didn't imagine it started to disintegrate or something. But...

I took it out of the case and the frets were VERY green and brown. There were three moisture absorbers in the case, but perhaps they have long been not effective anymore. I had to polish it with steel wool for quite some time in order to get rid of it.

I then went to the string changing and the issues started... The G saddle on the Floyd Rose had its string-insert block completely stuck. I could barely release the string, and it is impossible the remove the block from the saddle. I ruined some tweezers trying to remove it.

I decided to at least finish stringing the rest of the set, but then saw the high E machine head is completely loose! It turns too easily and wobbles. I tried to find one tutorial about how to tighten this type of machine head - nothing. I then looked at it more closely and saw this:

I don't recall the guitar had this before, and what's weirder is that some earwax-like stuff is coming out of the small hole of some of the machine heads' "cube". I have no idea what this is, and it also happened in the damaged high E.

About the saddle - I guess I can only order a replacement.
But what can I do about the tuner? What do you think are those weird extractions?

Please, help! I want to sell this one already but I can't if it's not working properly.

Answer;

Remove this machine head. You'll see two hear underneath. On need to be push back to hold cover and keep gear in place.

That earwax is probably old grease turned sour. That, and the stuck bridge, indicate the guitar needs a full hardware maintenance, plus possibly a check @electronics.

Soak the problem parts (locking nut, too) in 3-in-1 oil, WD-40 or such for a day, disassemble, clean, lube where needed, reassemble. Fix or replace parts that don't look right.
On electronics, contact spray and rotating pots, moving the switch position goes a long way.
Plus of course a thorough cleaning - I'd use cotton rags & Zippo fluid (since you had the green/brown frets), then some guitar polish (& oiling if you have a rosewood fretboard).

Are you talking about the two "hooks" that go into the flat plate? Their already connected. Perhaps I forgot the tuner got slammed into something and became bent. I unfortunately had to order a new set of tuners.

Well, I haven't checked yet (not having finished the restringing), but I assume the electronics should be fine.

In regards to the issues I mentioned: I eventually ordered a new G saddle as the original one is useless with the block being stuck beyond extraction. I also went the extra mile and ordered a titanium block set. I won't be using this guitar after selling it, but I'll possibly save the to-be new owner the need to throw away yet another of the saddles. It might also serve a bit as a selling point, being an upgrade of sorts.

I also ordered a whole new set of Gotoh vintage tuners. Not because I wanted to replace the whole new set, but because no individual tuner is on offer. But I'd rather avoid replacing all of the 6 myself. The first 5 seem functional (gunk or not), and having to remove them means throwing away the Elixir set I used (I order the strings from abroad as they cost double here). Thus, I've been thinking of replacing the high E and offering the 5 remaining new tuners to the buyer.

The locking nut seems fine so I don't see any reason to soak it.

The frets I have already cleaned using 000 steel wool. It sounded aggressive but I've seen it recommended by many different people.

If your still selling it, I’d be interested in it in any condition it’s sitting in? I have all the parts to fix it. Let me know. Also any extra pics of it would br nice. Thx
