First of all - Hi everyone! This is my first topic and sorry if it's the wrong section.

Recently I decided that it's a time to finally buy a Strat and I'm wondering between two options:

https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-B ... a6EALw_wcB

OR

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/fender-strat ... SwfjRaEDIO

The second one is from 2008 and has Seymour Duncan pearly gates and two texas specials.

My question is: is there much difference between the two in terms of quality, tone and comfort of play as well as pick up's tone?

Many thanks for your help!

Hi & welcome. Sorry for the late answer, but you apparently were a victim of the forum's first poster delay policy.

On the guitars, they're both MIM HSS Strats, so the basics are the same. Quality and comfort, IMHO no difference.
Tonewise, the Pearly Gates/TexSpecials can be expected to be somewhat raunchier than the "standard" pickup set in the FSR - so think about what you prefer.

The embellishing details (big or small headstock, painted or lacquered headstock, rosewood or pau ferro fretboard, used or new, with or without warranty) should help.
The price difference (520£ new/390£ used) isn't big, but I'd recommend adding a price for a professional setup on either model.

As JM says, basically the same MIMs, but I'd go for the second (eBayer) with the case, SD pups and lower price. From the pics, there's little/no fretwear. Seems like a no-brainer - but that's just me, of course!

Plus, painted headstock models have never been quite as popular for some reason; same guitar but even I prefer the look of the plain finish (and I had a '95 MIA with body coloured headstock). Just something that might affect future resale, perhaps, if you're thinking that far ahead.

Cheers - Peter.

Are you in Europe?

For me those are high prices for used MIM Fender Strats.

The 2nd one is equivalent to about $519 USA pricing.

If that's the going rate for MIM Fender Strats over there, then I'm glad I live in the USA.

I'd take the 2nd one with a gun to my head, but without the gun, I'd pass on both for those prices.

Those prices are what us Europeans have to pay, usually, so they don't scream robbery to me.
Yankees might enjoy a bit lower price levels, but then again, we got Urquell and you got Coors.

And funny how preferences differ.
If I were into HSS's, I'd choose a vintage matching headstock (comes from my love for MIJ's) & normal pickups (one can always add volume and/or pedals for more overdrive) over a big lacquered oar (oh, that CBS invention...) & raunchy/in-your-face Pearly+TexSpecials (getting angelic cleans from those, no way).

We enjoy A LOT lower price levels, not just a bit.

Here's some of the Fender Strats I've picked up in the last year.

$325 - '90 USA Fender Pewter Strat Plus:
$435 - '07 USA Fender '57 AVRI Surf Green Strat
$438 - '89 Fender Old Candy Apple Red Standard Strat
$280 - '07 MIM Fender Ldt. Ed. "Reverse Headstock" Hendrix Tribute

As for beer, I could care less about who's is better.

I can't play beer through one of my vintage Fender or Boogie amps.

I am sure, with more practice, it will come.

If you got that deal without using firearms, it almost makes up for the Urquell/Coors split.
Almost.

Whaaat? They are ridiculously cheap - no wonder you've got such a nice collection of Strats, Fender Aficionado!

I don't know where JM is (never heard of Urquell - had to Google it), but anywhere on this side of the pond you're not going to get a decent US Strat anywhere near those prices! Not even before the £/$ drop last year.

Think I'll stay in GB though. Can afford your Strats but couldn't afford your healthcare!

Cheers - Peter.
