does Fender make a neck like the neck on a 1996 Lonestar? I have found that recent guitars are nothing like my Lonestar neck. I can never figure out why they are different, but they are. I know the Lonestar neck well as I have been playing it since 1996. I have two of them, one candy apple red and the sunburst one (which was my first and bought in 96)

thanks

Hi, and sorry for the late answer.
The forum seems to lack an expert on the Lonestars at the moment, so I'll set the ball rolling.

According to this: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50373 "all the basic specs were the same as the typical 1996 American Standard Strat". That's also what the parts list (year 2000) says; "Neck, American Standard Stratocaster; 0028155000, M/N or 0028154000, R/W".
Same as in AmStd, Roadhouse and Big Apple Strats. 9.5" radius, 22 Medium Jumbo frets, 1.6875” (43 mm) nut, Modern C profile, PU finish.

I know some web sources say the Lonestar neck was fatter than the AmStd neck, but the Fender info doesn't back it up. One note here: in the nineties, "same" necks could vary a lot, so that (and of course the roadwear from the playing hours you have with your guitars) probably affect the 'feel' you get from your Lonestar necks.

If you've tested the new (= until the end of the series) AmStd's with sad results, maybe the American Professional with its "Deep C" neck profile would suit you.
If that's all wrong, and none of the C/D/U/V neck profiles satisfy, there's always the custom way - even to the point of copying your best neck.

thanks, I need to read this through a bit more, sorry for the late reply. I found the Shawbucker strat had a beefer neck than my Lonestar. Every neck that I have compared feels bigger and beefer compared to my 1996 Lonestar.
The closest neck I have to my Lonestar is my G&L Semi Hollow Tele (which I like a little better than the Lonestar neck)

So all we need to know now is, which one (MCNK; 1ANK; 1NK; 3NK; 4NK; 1BNK; MUNK; SVNK or DVNK) of the G&L neck profiles does your Tele have...

But seriously. If you've tested both nineties and newer AmStd necks, and they're not close enough to your Lonestar, that's most likely because of the individual neck tolerances. And repeating; there's plenty of profiles available on Fender's Strat menu.

BTW, many MIJ's have a slim neck, if you accept the second hand option.

I wish they had American builds with the Lonestar neck. It's a comfortable neck. It's not perfect but I like it more than what I have tried in the store. Yes I am not 100% sure on the G&L. I think I figured it out one time but really hard to say.

thanks

thanks

Lonestar, Bigapple, and Roadhouse strats all used Am Std production necks. Any of those models coming out of the Custom Shop (which were very few) may have had different tolerances depending on the builder.

thanks, I converted my red one to three singles and bought a mint white one to take the place of the red one. This is a post with all three.
