I have found a strat online for sale near me with a serial number matching one from 1963, the asking price is low so i am assuming it is a fake? but it seems the person selling it has no clue what it is and doesn't even play guitar herself. What are things to look out for to determine whether it is genuine or not?

The old rule applies: if it sounds too good to be true, it isn't. There may be a handful of real incidents where someone bought a real vintage guitar real cheap, the rest are scam.

If you want the forum to help with diagnosing the guitar, post pics - overall and all details (including neck joint and under the 'hood), high-res, as many as you can.
