So last week I got my hands on a Fender MIM Stratocaster. My grandfather had passed away and I got this really strange Strat form his storage closet. The first thing I noticed was the Gator case it came in was covered in glued pictures of Stratocasters that I removed after a few days of getting annoyed by it the strange thing was underneath the glued on picture of strats was in bold letters "MC FLY". Next to that was spray painted picture of Jimi Hendrix I didn't question that tho that's cool as hell on a case. So upon opening the guitar case I saw this beautiful dark red Stratocaster Rosewood neck. When I picked it up I noticed on the back of the guitar where the Trem cover should be was a plastic piece that was over a paper picture of Jimi Hendrix again I promptly took it off it looked tacky imo. So after taking that thing off I saw it again Mc Fly than another name (At the time of typing I Can't remember nor am I home to see this name again)
:?
The next thing I noticed was it had a Seymour Duncan Pickup in the bridge position
(Ill post pics in a bit)

after all that messing about I finally plugged her in and played and boy is that Bridge hot..
It almost burst my ear drums. the other pickups as far as I can tell are standard stratocaster pups..

Anyone have any insight on this?
Just a Project by a random guy?
Oh I forgot to mention the guitar had like a tribute to jimi's Monterrey stratocaster on the case by the clutter of glued on guitars this was all obviously taken form a magazine
I just found this odd I'll post pics tonight when I get home
Thanks for the help in advance

Hello, my friend.

Look, most of the information you posted is useless to identify or date the guitar. The case obviously is not by Fender, and none of the stickers or aftermarket parts you mentioned has anything to do with it.

To be able to help you we'd need at least pictures of:

The entire guitar, front and back

The headstock, up close, front and back.

The pickguard

The body contour.

Post it and we'll say what wk make out of it.

There is the other option.
Hold the guitar a bit closer to the monitor so we can all see 8)

Ah, I can see what we have here. Your grandfather was obviously of the view that, rather than teaching the guitar to play stuff (the normal way of getting a guitar to sound good) , by placing pictures near the guitar this would allow the instrument to learn stuff by its self.

Unfortunately this approach is seldom successful with anything but the most intelligent guitars. Even some Masterbuilt Strats will struggle with anything other than hands on teaching.

One of my Strats will learn stuff off YouTube but you have to stay in the room with it, and play the video many times over, as it won't pay attention otherwise.

not much of a mystery actually. that guitar has been modified. was it your grandad? unknown, and no way to ask him until you meet again.

stickers, eeesh.., at least they weren't put on the guitar. the back plate, obviously another "mod" someone decided on, easy to do, unscrew screws, replace plate, likely someone painted the case.. but you won't ever know who.

replacing/swapping out pickups is common. The problem here is it sounds like that pickup is not a match output wise for the other two.. that would be a problem for me. also, "hot" pickups usually aren't much for tone. The trade off for the increased out put, is at the sacrifice of tone.

this Mc Fly thing Was gramps into the back to future movies?

with out pictures, or a serial #.. that's about all I got.

The guitar uses that really hot bridge pup to rap you on the head sharply with its knuckles while it says,
"McFly .... McFly ...."

You didn't happen to also find an amplifier with about 10,000 watts and a single 60" speaker did you?

Or .....

Maybe your grandfather liked really sappy pop songs.

It happens all the time around here.
Somebody goes to the trouble of creating a profile to ask a single question but never bothers to acknowledge answers or further comment again.
I assume they come back and lurk for the purpose of reading the responses.
