Hi everybody, i'm new in here. I bought a F. Squier MIKorea aprox. 1990, did change all electronics components for: tex-mex, cts pots, new 5 ways swichter, jack plug, completly rewired, and get great sound on Mustang 1 V2, there's still something could sound better, i read this guitars could be made on plywood body. Serial Ner: M2137108. Is anybody knows about the body of this guitars? thanx.

It's true that a Korean Strat of that era could have a plywood body.
But I don't think that alone can make or break a guitar's sound, it's more a question of all the parts (including the player...) working together.
Play on, play LOUD.

What does it weigh? In my (limited) experience of plywood guitars, they tend to be much heavier than their tonewood counterparts. Except 70's Strats, of course!!!

Cheers - Peter.

A lot will depend on the type of ply. Far Eastern ply often uses thick plies of Meranti which is almost Balsa like in weight. My plywood bodied SG copy is very light.

Ply, and light ply in particular, will kill resonance.

Ah, fair enough John - didn't know that! Apart from the 70's ply copies, I also recall a bit more recently trying to talk a youngster out of a used Encore Strat - over a Yamaha Pacifica - as a starter guitar. It must've weighed somewhere between 12 and 15lbs! I had the dubious pleasure of setting it up for him, so I remember it well - took me back 20 years!
In the 90's I always thought the solid-wood Pacificas were excellent starter guitars for the money...

Cheers - Peter.

It is heavy, so for what you all said, it's plywood...cause a good body is so expensive doesn't worth to think in a change, for a little more it there's the stratocaster am special or even a good MIM.

My 1985 Harmony H80T (Made in Korea) Strat copy is a thick ply, and is heavy. Never weighed it, but it is heavier than any other guitar I've ever strapped on.
That said; it is an amazing sounding guitar....tone, sustain, resonance....it has all of it. So I'm convinced that (though any ear can find subtle differences with different woods, wood builds, and wood combinations) any guitar has the POTENTIAL to sound great based on set-up of ALL components.

I'm very happy with the sound on my squier after changed all the components, is only small details as playing the high frets, doesn't hold the sustain as it should on the clear channel, but on the other hand has got a nice Fender sound, for sure a better player could get a better sound, i'm better on acoustic and classic guitar as fingerstyle.

The serial number "M2137108", doesn't seem to match any of the serial number types listed on the Korean instrument dating section of the site.

No in the main list, but I sent it to Fender support, and they reconized the serial number and told me they thing could be plywood, but they couldn't confirm this point, I think cause is nearly 30 years old and korean, and I thing that korean factory doesn't exist anymore, so they don't have an exact information. I wish to know every single detail of the wood parts of this guitar, cause I changed all the electric components, before did sound as lower class, now sounds good, but my amplifier is only a Fender Mustang I V2, and it sounds good

Quoting Fender Support /Korean Instruments Dating Page
Quote:
Although Fender began producing Fender and Squier instruments in Korea in 1988, its digital records only go back to mid-1993, with little if any information available on serial numbering from 1988 through 1992. It is accepted that there were serial numbers with and without letter prefixes at that time, but as definitive information is lacking, serial-number dating for Korean instruments made before 1993 is highly uncertain.
