Hey everyone, I'm new here. I was given a squier by a relative at a young age over the years it has lost parts. I was much younger and I believe one of my bandmate's gutted the guitar out, for parts since I just thought it was a regular old Squier. However I've had the body sitting around and I want to put it back together.

So, is this worth investing in? I can't seem to find any info on it, the pickup cavities are unlike any I've seen on

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, and welcome. Your first post was seemingly postponed by the forum delay, but here's a late answer.

First, some nagging.
Post pics on the forum, not links. (*)
And if you want an ID on a body, give all possible info to help narrow down possibilities. Squiers have been made all over, and over a long period.
For instance: What was the original pickup combo? Where was the guitar made/bought? Do you have any photos of the guitar way back then? Plus, I have no idea when you were 'at a young age', so when was that 'way back when'..?

On the rebuild question. If by 'investing' you mean using money in hope of getting it (&maybe more) back, it's absolutely not worth the gamble. But if sentimental reasons, lack of something more interesting to pass time, learning and other such reasons play a part, why not? Guitar building/restoring is a real good hobby.

You can't polish a turd.

If you have all the parts lying around and just need something to screw them to, to keep them out of the way, then go for it.

Do not spend anything on that body. If you need to buy parts you will quickly get to the cost of a new Squier, or beyond, which might well be a better guitar for the money.

Bodies do have an influence on sound and sustain. It could be that that might make a good guitar. It will have no value and be worth less than the cost of the parts you bolt to it. But, if all your stars align at once, and the guitar gods are feeling benevolent, you might get a good guitar...you would probably be better using the opportunity to buy a lottery ticket though.

It would be good to know what the body was hewn from and the weight. I have my suspicions it might be plywood (based on the splitting around the plethora of screw holes) in which case it isn't even good as firewood.

I agree they is some nice authentic played in ageing which gives some appeal. Unfortunately almost all of that has now been obliterated by storage damage so it doesn't really score highly there.

If the original guitar had significant provenance in a celebrity owner, or some other such back story, it might be worth something.

Some old things are cool and drip with mojo. Others are just old and should be put out of their misery. Only you can decide what this one is.
