Hi everyone! Just purchased a used MIJ strat with an ST62-DGF stamped on the neck and just a "T" in the neck pocket of the body. Tried searching the net about the specific model but couldn't find any information regarding it.

Checking the electronics, it seems to have ceramics PU's and cheapo pots. What i'm more interested in is the body as I have read that some MIJ strats were made of basswood rather than the traditional alder or ash.

Will post some pictures once I find a site which works like photobucket

Hoping someone here can enlighten me.

The age of the guitar might help in some points. And of course the pics.

But generally speaking, my understanding is that the DGF would point to a domestic model not intended for export - if you know the background story of your guitar, it may deny or confirm this.
The ceramic pickups point to lower price class guitars - but don't take that in the wrong way; bodies & necks were usually the same, the hardware different.
And usually, Japan Strats have the model stamped on the body, too - but there's exceptions.

Basswood was (and still is) one body wood option in Japanese Strats. If you need to check 'under the hood' or do a DNA test, does it matter..?

How does it sound? How does it feel? You bought it, so you must like it, so what does it matter what the body material is made from? Basswood is still a tone wood, just a different one. Throw some Fat 50's pickups in it, replace the pots and then play the crap out of it~
