Hi guys. I´m buying my first Stratocaster. Unfortunately I cant´afford a new one so I´m thinking buying a used one from a 2nd hand site.
I´m reading a lot about Strats (and fake ones) but I see there´s a lot of divergent opinions on how to detect a fake one.
You are specialists in this matter so I´ll post the pictures of the guitar and I´m counting on your opinion to hell me if its a real SRAT and all you know about it.
The seller told me he bought it in the USA, in a Fender Store in 2010, and its has a black matte finish.

It costs 370 $. Ill post the pictures the seller has online.

If you don't like the way the guitar feels don't buy the guitar. You could have it refreted but you could also buy a different guitar for the cost of this one plus a refret.

I don't think it is a bad price for an HW1, and I really like mine, but I don't see the point in buying it if you don't like the way it plays.

+1, unless of course you want to put a white pearloid pick guard on it. :)

I'll try it tomorow. I like a low action playing so i guess I get that more easily with regular frets. Im new at fender guitars ( I want to change from heavy gibsons to a easily and clear fender sound) but I lack the informations about the different models such as highway ones or standart stratocasters (bodys, pick-ups, arms etc...) and i just want to know tour opinion about this one

IMO frets are the good ones for Fender Strat and easy to play if guitar are well set up , many are not.
It could be only your lack of experience...., price is good.

Fret are to expensive to replace, but luthier can file them for a"low"cost.

According to the marketing the Highway One range was developed as a no frills players guitar. All the features, nitro thin coat, tall frets and Greasebucket circuitry (which is very good) are aimed at the player. The finish on the fret ends wasn't as smooth as a Standard when it left the factory but these will most likely have been played in by now.

I think it is a better guitar than the American Special which replaced it. The American Special is great value but takes a few years to play in before it starts to really feel nice.

I too prefer medium jumbos and paid around £185 in GB for a refret to my Special with a maple board. Rosewood boards (which I see you have) are cheaper, according to my luthier, because they're easier to do (no risk of damaging the finish on the maple).

I got the Special at a very good price and had already factored in the refret. Whether the cost works for you in $US I don't know, but it's made my Special perfect. Much of that is down to the fantastic job done by the luthier, of course!

$370 for a Highway One seems very cheap to me - put me down for a couple! John (Sims) got a bargain with his Daphne Blue one, but I haven't seen one like his since at anything like that price. If I had done, I'd have probably bought it!

So a refret is - I'd say - definitely worth doing if you prefer medium frets, assuming the price works, AND you have a good luthier on board. Just my opinion, though.

Cheers - Peter.

Thanks guys I bought the guitar for 300€, more or less 370$, and I´m very happy with it. Love the huge neck, and the fact its a true american made. The sound its very impressive for such an affordable guitar.
The only thing i dislike is the black matte nitro finish. It has some scrathes and from what I read I should not sand it and/or polish it. I believe I will have to adapt myself with this dull visual and focus on the sound and feel

I love the HW1. It can be setup to play as well as more expensive models and the bridge humbucker gives it some extra versatility. Hard to beat for the price.

Subjectively it's not as good looking as other strats but even that has a certain 'blue collar working musician' appeal.

Think you made a good choice.
