Hello everyone,

I'm a new member here.
I recently got a Road Worn 60ies strat which I very much like, but now I also have a classic 60ies strat to try, and I'm in a dilemma as I have to say I like both guitars.
They both play and sound great to me, the Classic 60s sounds a bit brighter and the Road Worn 60s sounds somewhat warmer to me.
Of course the Road Worn feels very different and I love that sanded down neck.
But the price difference between the two is also not exactly small.... not sure if the Road Worn is worth the price difference (about 450 Euro!) over the classic.
I would love to have both of these, but that would make little sense, for the price of both of them I could (almost) get an American Vintage 65 or 59 strat, and that's not really within my budget right now.

Any of you ever played/owned a Road Worn 60s and a classic 60ies strat and compared the both? If so, what was your opinion?

thanks for any input!

Aside the obvious relic look of the Roadworn (which is very liberating as you don't worry about knocking the guitar) it has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. This being the case a fairer price comparison is between the Roadworn and Classic 60's Lacquer.

I like nitro a lot. I like that it ages with you. I like the fact that it is authentic to the original finish that was used.

Does it sound different? I can't tell because I don't have two identical guitars (one with nitro and one without) to compare. I can feel the mojo though.

Thank you very much for your input, John.

Some very valid and good points you're making there, I agree, the roadworn does have that kind of mojo and feels very different from the classic (non-reliced). And the fact that you won't have to worry about getting dents or scratches into the new guitar is especially valid for me as I'm usually very OCD about my guitars...lol

That said, to me the classic 60s strat plays and sounds great as well, like I said it sounds a bit brighter but that's not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion.
I'm just not sure if I can justify the price difference when I like both guitars equally .... this is a real dilemma here....1st world problems, I know ..lol

I have both, like both for different reasons.

My Classic is the CAR Lacquer version, great looks and feel, very good sound, and it looks like a brand new one from way back when. I also like the look and feel of the RW, looks, feels and sounds like a well used vintage Strat.

Value wise, the Classic with nitro finish comes with a case, and I had to buy a case for the RW (G&G of course.)

Based purely on sound, I prefer the RW Tex Mex pups as they just have more character and are more versatile for both clean or distortion sounds.

So, all things considered, if I faced the dilemma of having to keep only one, I would keep the RW.

What do you mean by CAR lacquer? Are you referring to the Classic 60s lacquer (nitrocellulose finish, however non-reliced)?

The classic 60 I am currently comparing with the RoadWorn is the 'regular' Classic 60 (with Poly-finish).

I agree completely with what you are saying about the feel and look of the RoadWorn!!!

Yes, Candy Apple Red, Nitro Cellulose Lacquer. I actually got this one over the regular model because of the color option of CAR. The fact that it is Nitro is a plus for me too.

Yes, to me the RW is a comfortable guitar, like an old pair of jeans, and has the best sound between the two.

OK, thanks, gotcha!

AFAIK the Classic 60s lacquer is very close in terms of price to the Road Worn.
The Classic 60s (poly) is quite a bit less expensive (at least over here in Europe), so there's my main dilemma, whether or not the RoadWorn is worth the price difference....
Of course, I would love to have both, but my wallet is telling me otherwise...LOL
