My brothers offer was accepted but he has yet to pay and he was wondering if this guitar was worth $500. He doesn't know much about MIJ guitars but he has a couple buddies who are saying its worth it and some who are saying its not.

Hi, just noticed your post this evening - there's a lag for new members' first post but this seem excessive...

In my 'hood, late eighties MIJ Strats sell for an average of 700-800 € (add 20% for dollars), if they're about original, so that's what I'm used to. Reverb's price guide gives a range of 380-780 €.

This one looks like an ST-57 more than a "Standard" (Contemporary Standard 22 is what I'm thinking), the color descriptions (both original and current) are weird, electronics are non-original and there's that horribly mutilated sort-of-a-swimming-pool-routing-but-not-at-all.
To my taste, the price is justified if it plays like a dream (after a setup of course). If there is any trouble/hassle/additional work needed, it's on the high side - although not robbery, if the neck pocket markings check out and nothing is actually broken.

Note, this is just an opinion.

In my personal opinion this guitar is not worth that asking price. The body has been butchered and pickups and tuners have been changed out. It is hard to tell if this is a Re-Issue or a Standard Strat.

Looking at the string spacing on the nut, there seems to be less space on the high E side
than on the low E side.

+1 on what Chet said.

Make that +2
Too many changes made. I'm not a fan of those knobs on a Strat. And if a guy is gonna switch out tuners, why not stick with Fender. Plus, the seller doesn't know how to describe colors (not even close to 'neon'). The whole thing irritates me....would have been easy for me to skip pass that ad.

As for the "worth"....maybe in society; but not for me.
