hey everyone, I'm leaning towards buying the American Strat (Olympic White, Maple) and I've been wondering if it's a good idea to buy different pickups to replace the stock ones, I've heard mixed reviews about their quality so I wanted to know if anybody could help me out.

Depending on the series of guitar you are getting the stock ones are fine. Make sure you get a good set up or adjustment on the guitar. I love the tone in the stock pups in my American Series. I have just purchased the EMG-DG20 to swap back and forth when the mood is right but I won't leave them in permanently.

I wouldn't change ANYTHING until after you've played it (as is) for a few months and then decide what you don't like or would like to change.

Don't believe everything you hear. Everyone has their own subjective opinions on what sounds good.

Good luck !

I would say play it for a while and get a feel for it. No ones opinion of the sound matters but your own. Your going to be the one playing it.

It kind of freaks me out when someone says they're going to buy an expensive guitar and are not going to like the way the pickups sound.

Buy it, play the heck out of it. If it does not give you the tingly feeling in your groin when you play it then worry about modding it.

Couldn't agree more!

It takes months to really get to know the nuances of your guitar. Going into it with the mindset that you won't like the pups because your friends say they don't sound good is crazy.

There's an awful lot of great guitar players out there who sound fantastic with their stock Am. Series strat.

Tone is in the ear of the beholder.

well being a sort of new Fender buyer, I've been kinda looking into the reviews to get a general outlook on how they sound and what quality to expect from the stock equipment, so thanks for all your help everybody. I much appreciate it...and I think I'll be buyin' that new Am series :)

Cool!! nice guitar!! its really down to how you think they sound...you could always have another pick gaurd loaded with different pickups ie; hot rails, texas specials..or your combination..and just switch em over as you fancy!!?? 8) thats the cool thing about strats!!!

One of the web pickup gurus is around here now and then. Listen to what SMark tells you. 8)

Why? I've bought guitars that play amazing, and sound to thin, too muddy, or whatever... A change in pots, p/u's and tossing in a capacitor here or there can fix alot of things.
