I have read that in order to minimize '60 cycle single coil hum'
1 approach can be exploited through the use &/or addition
of Conductive Shielding Paint

Conductive Tape under the pickguard

Is this an effective & advisable mod to make?
Any tips, links, suggestions, or other info is appreciated.

I use the shielding paint. The entire cavity and the bottom of the pickguard get at least 2 coats.

I understand that the shielding paint or tape can reduce the hum from your pickups a lot ! BUT personally I would advise you to get better pickups.. why? because I think the paint and the tape can block the sound coming from the body of your guitar into the pickups .. they will filter out the body resonation .... that is one of the reasons I would say replace your pickups but if you wanna try them let me know the results ! :P

So just paint over it?
I guess I was thinking it was meant to be used like primer or somthing.
What about the tape?
not necessary, just use the paint on the back of the pickguard?

Take a glance at Erick Coleman's Trade Secrets sheet about applying shielding. Obviously, these sheets are StewMac sales pitches - but you can see past that to the useful information:

I've had good results using copper tape, as well as the paint.
