Anderton's has a new video on YouTube comparing two LPB Classic 60s Strats, one rosewood, one pau ferro. As Arte Johnson used to say- "Very interesting".

Indeed so. I am rather please that it was Mick & Pete as I can relate to them more than Chappers and have much more respect for their opinion.

Because of YouTube compression, computer speakers etc etc there is very little point in listening to all the jamming and stuff so the last 10 minutes is perhaps the best bit.

I can't say I am surprised by their conclusion and also agree with Mick's comments regarding two identical guitars from identical materials made side by side on the same day can feel and sound different.

The real definitive test would be to try both necks on both bodies

Ah, but you will still have the variable as to how each neck sits in the neck pocket, how well it interfaces with the body etc.

This is the trouble with Strats, 1001 small things can make a difference.

Perhaps if you tested 20 identical Strats, 10 with Rosewood and 10 with PF you might get a trend which might suggest a difference. I doubt it though. They will all be different but whether the difference indicates a trend?

It probably doesn't matter any way as playing a guitar is a subjective thing. If you convince yourself that rosewood is better the PF (assuming you know it is PF) then a PF guitar will never be just right.

I liked that video a lot, but I honestly did not hear a difference in both the guitars. To me they both sounded great!

IF it wasn't for the slight difference in shade, I bet if they changed it and never told a soul, no one would even be able to tell a difference.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

A solid piece of technical journalism. :-)

I am very much enjoying the Guitcon videos all round.

That vid BMW-KTM posted got me (laughing and) thinking.
We have all kinds of electronic supergidgets modeling (usually vintage, but anyway) amps & speakers.
So, why doesn't any manufacturer offer tonewood modeling devices..?
(All rights to the idea reserved.)

Hey! Wait! I know the answer!

I might be wrong, but these wood changes and the use of new materials such as richlite make me often think about myself, a couple of decades from now, showing my stratocaster to my grandkids and seeing them drool in awe, asking me "gosh, it is made of real wood???"
