Hi all,

Just scored this near-new Ocean Blue American Standard for the princely sum of 590 of our English pounds! John Sims - I think I may've equalled your £510 Highway One for a Good Deal?!

No fret wear, all standard trim, Fat 50's etc etc. Haven't had them before, but to those who wax lyrical over these pups - I agree. Very nice indeed!

It needs all the usual adjustments for my personal requirements, based on 9's instead of 10's, tuned to E flat, with any neck/trem adjustments to suit, but that's no problem. Amazingly, the saddle screws don't protrude at all - the fact that this guitar was set up by Fender GB may've helped with that.

Can't see me modding this Strat - it just doesn't need it...!

Cheers - Peter.

I've like that colour.
Congrats.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I would only argue to suggest you surpassed it. That is close to a deal of a life time, and I love the colour.

If you bond in the same way that I have with my new one you will be a very happy man.

Thanks all for the enthusiasm! I couldn't wait to get a couple of pics on the forum!

Have now got it round to my way of thinking, with the 9's replacing the 10's, trem springs adjusted to suit, p/ups given the 'correct' slant - I was losing top end as they were. But these are just minor things!

I noticed when the strings were off, the truss rod rattled inside the (2016) neck. It's fine with the strings on (and hasn't needed any adjustment so far). Anyone else had that? Can't say I have. Is it perhaps a different design?

My newest Strat otherwise is a 2014, but that's a Special - more of a snot-nosed-kid than a man-about-town (and all the better for it)! IE: Is the Special dumbed-down neck-wise? It doesn't have the Micro-Tilt or rolled edges, for instance. Just curious...

Cheers - Peter.

OK, Ocean Blue Metallic is very nice, but a pro refinish to Sonic Blue nitro is fantastic! Fat 50's swapped for the 'noughties' unstaggered AmStd pups (always loved these) and a pro setup completes the equation for me. Because of the deal I did, the whole thing has cost me less than £500. What do you reckon?! Cheers - Peter.

I quite liked the original colour but that is much more classy and grown up. And you shouldn't have the issues that metalics seem to have of chipping and flaking that I have seen on a good few second hand examples.

Very sweet indeed.

You went from cool to drool with that refinish. Nice! 8)

Man that's a beauty, Peter. It's so pretty I had to show it to my son and he said it looks like a guitar that Elvis would play. Kind of "The Kings" colors. I think he is right. Congratulations!
