Hi,

I recently bought a second hand Stratocaster (Serial number - SZ0248850). I was made aware that the neck and body weren't originally together (fine with me as I love how it plays anyway). The neck is a Clapton "Blackie" (1988-2001) with the above SN. The body is a (?) torino red with noisless pickups and an american standard bridge. It has active electronics (which appear factory) and no other switches etc. I've searched online and it doesn't seem to fit any of the known Stratocaster models with active electronics (the bridge doesn't fit with what was on the Clapton models, and it's not a Jim Root or Jazzmaster). I suppose my question is whether anyone can give an opinion as to whether the body is an original Stratocaster (and in which case what type) or whether it has most likely been modified?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi, bsk. As a new member, the forum overseers delayed your first post so answers come late...

To give a proper answer, pics please. As big, detailed and many as possible, including gut shots of the body (= insides under the pickguard, neck joint, electronics...).
You need to load pics on some web host (imgur, flickr, googlephotos and such - but avoid photobucket), get the pic address (begins http, ends .jpg) and use the IMG button on the forum.

At least the Sambora signature and Powerhouse have been available in red, and then there are the possible made-in-Japans, CustomShop guitars, FSR's and whatnut. And of course, the active electronics may be aftermarket mods on any Strat/Stratlike body. But, without pics there's no way to tell - and even with the best pics, some guitars remain a mystery...

Off topic, I know - sorry - but why, JM? I'm not very tech-savvy but my recent trem photos (as all others) are on Photobucket and all SEEMS to have been OK. I took ages getting to grips with Photobucket, and I still have to think about it  I don't want to have to go through all that again...!

Cheers - Peter.

In the past, PB was just another image hosting website.
Then they started using so many pop up etc. ads, that visiting the site became almost impossible - here's a quote describing my experience, on May 12th this year:

Photobucket journey this time:
a Unibet pop-up,
then a 'print your photos' ad bar needing to be closed,
one "edge by udm" pop-up corner window,
then a qudsurvey pop-up,
then a "sponsored ads - continue to site" overlay pop-up,
then an "exception" error ad bar,
then, finally to the pics.

And now (since July) they have the 'new and improved' terms of use. "Third party image hosting" (= embedding pics e.g. on Fender forum) is only available for their Plus500 customers, yearly cost 399,99. This has caused a lot of embedded pics to disappear from websites (guitar related and others) - those were posted by people who didn't opt in to the new terms and new prices.

My recommendation to this is, boycot the service. There are better choices. And I feel greed should have some limits.

On your pics still showing: either PB renovation hasn't yet reached you or you are a paying customer.
