And somehow you have the perception you're the right person to control what answers others give, and go to personal insults if their opinions aren't the same as yours?

Insults? I'm not the one running around telling guys they need to practice more before they can spend $100 on replacement pickups.

Back on topic, there is a good chance the pickups in the OP's Mexican standard strat are made with ceramic magnets. Not that there's anything wrong with ceramics, but all of his guitar heroes are using alnicos.

The beauty of Mexican Strats is that they are easy and cheap to customize, and affordable enough you can work on them without being too stressed out. There is a thriving aftermarket pickup industry for a reason.

So I still say go for it.

So, if I read you between the lines right, we're actually both advicing the OP to keep the present pups and invest in stuff that really matters for crunch...

If you read me correctly we are of a similar mind for our own gear but for the purposes of this thread, I made my pickup recommendation because that's what was asked.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I feel it's easier to get rough with low output pickups than to get gentle with hi-gainers. There's a multitude of electronic devices for adding the crunch. Not so many to make the guitar sing softly like your momma's lullaby, if the pickups are in-your-face to start with.

Just saying there are different approaches to any issue.

Actually, I find the guitar's volume knob works quite well for this :) (not joking)
