Hi everyone. I'm first timer and need a bit of help picking a strat. Now I have a 95 Mexican strat and to be honest, I don't love it. It has a Seymour Duncan, 50's fender and DiMarzio pickup in it and I still don't like it. I just like the normal fender pickups so maybe I can buy a set of those? But I'm not a lover of the rosewood neck and was thinks my of getting a maple neck but this all getting a bit too pricy for my liking. I was thinking of selling it and looking for a different strat and I need help from some of you because you would have more experience than me. Now I was thinking of getting the 50's classic vibe squier with the maple neck and 2 tone burst body but am I a bit crazy going from a mn fender to a squier? Please help me

Hi, Bill.
New members have a delay before the first post is published. With you, seems the delay was exceptionally long 'cause I noticed your post only today...

Anyways, to the question. It seems to me you have the 'GAS for something/anything else' syndrome... Don't panic, happens to all of us.
I'm absolutely sure the MIM fills the place of a Stratocaster, when set up properly. The overall sound depends on a lot of things, but the pickups or the fretboard are not the major factors; those come in the equasion way long after things like the player, control settings, amp, pedals etc.
As for the CV Squiers, those I've met are real nice guitars - again, when set up properly. If the logo means that much to you, look for MIM, MIJ, MIK (etc.) Fenders with that maple fb.

No amount of experience can give you a definite answer.
If you must swap the guitar, then you must.
The rational approach would be (quoting Jack White badly...) to find your relation with the MIM through some struggle, but GAS is never rational.

My advice is to avoid the rabbit hole of swapping out pickups, etc. Find the guitar that sounds right to you in the store. If it doesn't sound right, look for something else.

For what it's worth, I played a Squier Classic Vibe strat the other day that sounded as good as any strat I've ever played, and it felt pretty sweet too. It was a rosewood neck.

I also think very highly of the Classic 50s and Classic 60s series.

Yes you're crazy.

The Squier Classic Vibe are well-regarded by a lot of people, but I didn't like the few I tried out. They had thick polyurethane finishes and felt kind of plasticky and sticky. Besides, the price is so close to a MIM Fender they just don't make sense unless you happen to really like one.

But go to a store. Bring your amp. Mess around and find one that works for you.

I agree with the others who say don't bother with pickup swaps. If you're not liking the neck, there's no point.
