why waste money putting good tuners and good pickups on a cheap started guitar? i would save just a little more and get a good mim strat or something, that you don't have to do anything with. by the time you upgrade this and that, you'll have a cheap guitar with some good parts on it that will have cost more than one mim strat that's better anyway.

Hmmm ... dgonz has a good point there.

not saying this to be a jerk (although i am quite a jerk), but there's no point is wasting money you don't have, and then still not be happy with it. it might be better to wait a while, improve your playing on what you have now, and save up a bit more for a good guitar that you'll never have to change anything on. a mim is a great guitar, and you can have that your whole life and never "need" to do anything with it. and i think you'd be much happier with that.

just trying to help you out actually...

and a new mim is like $400 now. a used is probably $300 or so. you'll play that for the tuners and pickups, and one or two other things.

I would have to agree. I won't spend a lot of money changing out tuners on a starter guitar, unless they're damaged or not working. Money wasted, just to change tuners for the sake of changing tuners. That money could to into a fund for a better guitar.

I have to agree. Honestly you would only have a cheap guitar with nice pups. The mim is the way to go for you.

So you just want to use your squire as a project guitar. One that you can do anything to? If so, go for it!

I think that tuners don't make a HUGE deal because as long as you get to play with the guitar you should be fine. I love the sound of any guitar no matter the specifications.

I love my Fender/Schaller locking tuners, but I have to agree with the other guys. Get a MIM or sometimes you can find a great deal on a Hwy One at GC. You would end up with a MUCH better guitar for the money. What's that old saying "You can't polish a turd"
