I bought a used '93 American Standard Stratocaster not too long ago and I noticed that the pickup covers and all the other knobs are an aged white while the volume/tone dials and pick guard are a normal white. Is this a configuration that was available from the factory, or did someone modify the knobs at some point? It does look like the inlays in the fret board are aged white as well.

Hi. Your first post was probably delayed so answers come late...

That 1993 is the year Fender started recording serials and specs systematically (well, sort of...). So you could email Fender Support and get the original specs for your serial number.

My guess is, that combo is aftermarket stuff. But it may give some solace that the AmStd's of that age don't suffer major monetary value drops because of minor mods. It is what it is, the mother of all workhorses of Strats.

93 is a good age.

I would anticipate it would have been all white originally and the knobs look about as I would expect them. It could well be that the other bits have discoloured (so actual aged white). It is 24 years old and different materials/components age differently.

Noting the nature of a Strat though things do get changed so it is equally possible that the internals aren't as it left the factory. This isn't something I would sweat over personally.

You can sometimes get a clue by the condition of the screws. On a guitar of that age I would expect the screws at the top, where they get sweated on, to be black, the others not so much.

Similarly, if the internals are untouched, I would expect the top PUP screws to look worse than the bottom for the same reason.

It might just be I sweat over my guitars more than others of course.

Thanks for the helpful comments. It didn't even occur to me that the plastic may be genuinely aged yellow, but I think that is the case. I found a few other photos of 90s era Stratocasters that look similar:

I reached out to Fender and got a parts list for my serial number and all the parts are original, so nothing was swapped out. I guess the volume knobs don't yellow as quickly as the rest of the plastic parts do.
