Hello all. I have the opportunity to buy a MIM Standard Strat for $250 (with brass saddles added as an upgrade) or the Aerodyne Strat for $400. Both are of the mid-2000s era and in good condition.

My question to you all is this: is the Aerodyne really worth the extra $150? I'm not asking a "which should I get for my style" or "which is better" because I know all that is subjective. I'm just looking for the quality vs. price aspect.

$400 Is at the top of my budget for a guitar as I'm a bass player and I want something to tinker with, but of decent quality. I won't be playing gigs with it or anything. For the price of the Aerodyne I can get the MIM Strat and pick up a Squier Vintage Modified Jag for $200 which I've heard is of good quality for a Squier. Thanks for your input!

On a purely "value for the dollar" vantage point, I would say the MIM Standard is the best bet.

For that, the MIM is the perfect choice.

I'm not trying to be snobby, but you're sort of asking the wrong question - this is like the "are MIA's worth the price difference vs MIM's" all over again. The price difference isn't because of quality, it's because it's an Aerodyne and made in Japan. I'd say the Aerodyne is not right for you because you don't feel the force... (And: it's the same for me; I'm a big fan of MIJ's, but somehow the Aerodynes don't appeal to me.)
But in general, the build quality of MIJ Fenders is on par with any FMIC product, and usually their attention to details is higher than on MIM's.

Yep, that along with the MIM and you got a nice pair.

MiM all day every day. No issues with alternate parts which may (or may not) be the the case with MiJ.

I also don't feel the vibe of an Aerodyne. I don't say it isn't right, as the binding is there to do a job (hide the joint between the decorative face and the cheap body) but it looks too flash. A Strat is a tool and doesn't look right (to me) with excessive bling.

If you want to hang it on a wall and look at it all well and good. If you want to play it then get a players guitar. MiM ...you know it makes sense.

I was going to suggest going further with your $400 and get a second hand MiA but, in the first instance, you might be better off with a MiM until you evolve
