First, does it matter where a guitar comes from? (I of course understand the 'buy domestic' & such reasons, but otherwise.)
And second, Ping (among other Far East manufacturers) has been creeping to MIAs for quite a while now.

Too right. I moaned ages ago at buying a set of locking tuners exactly as fitted to the Deluxe Strats, and finding Made In Taiwan on the packaging!

I think I'd be rather concerned if an American Special was a MIM! In GB, Trading Standards would be interested in that! No, I'm sure the main bits - body, neck, p/ups etc are US-made. As you say, some of the other bits are imported - such as the output jack we were discussing. Interesting that you've confirmed that; for me it was just a guess based on the dodgy fit of a good quality jackplug.

Cheers - Peter.

With their Heico/Conxall couplings, Switchcraft of present days has production in the Far East, too.

This is not a problem of language, I understood. What Fender pretends to me this guitar look more half MIM half MIA.
PURE rubbish. And apparently you've never been divorced or you would know the meaning of HALF.

I would offer that even some Switchcraft products have changed forever as a result of the Asian economic boom. Not many companies can compete w/o making some sacrifice from time to time.
