You know how it is when there is a "Buy it now" on eBay with a "make an offer" option and you make an offer expecting to have it rejected ...and then it isn't.

Image

Apparently I bought a Highway One. It was listed as 2002 but I have since found out (Note to self: Do your homework first) that the large head stock didn't appear until 2006.

I am awaiting a Serial Number before transferring the money but otherwise I am pretty chuffed so far.

Very dangerous, John - but very nice!

OK, I've had it refretted to medium jumbos, but I love my Special, which is similar. Just because it's the cheap end of the MIA's doesn't mean it plays like it!

Can I ask how much? Or is that too nosey?!

Cheers - Peter.

Chap seems very genuine and apparently had the guitar from new.

The 2002 in the listing was a typo and he has sent me a photo of the Serial Number being Z6 26**** so all looking very solid there.

The "Buy it now" was £600 but I got it at less - I'll admit all once I have it in my hand and have told SWMBO...if I live.

It is a "buyer collect" but as I live within 12 miles not exactly a problem.

It looks like CW will be up for a new home soon. I am quite sad at the prospect in many respects but he doesn't make me smile the way he should and I can only play so many.

I agree. My Special Hard Tail is my "Go to" guitar if I'm not playing "Odee".

"Blue One" will replace CW at my second home, as he and I just haven't connected, and Blue One will better suit the lounge decor.

It will only be the second time I have sold a guitar and I ended up buying another one of the one I sold, so this may yet end in tears.

600 notes sounds reasonable, John - that's what my 2014 Special was, although I got a free set of Custom 69's and locking tuners with it, which definitely sweetened the deal!

Is this one blue, then? It looks more grey in the photo. Or have I misunderstood?

Cheers - Peter.

Dangerous thing, that eBay .....
I wish I could say that's never happened to me.

Hope it all works out for you.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

It was listed as Daphne Blue but it looks semi transparent so I'm not sure. Nitro is part of the spec so a super thin coat of colour if it is.

Picked up the new beastie this evening and very pleased indeed. For a 10 year old guitar it is as if it has never been played. The only marks are those where the nitro has attacked the arms on two different guitar stands.

The fretboard wants feeding and I had to refit the knobs as they were indexed differently to how I like them . Otherwise nothing to do except play and enjoy and perhaps take a few photos.

Cheers Dude.

Front left is Curly Whirly or CW.

CW is a MIM FSR commissioned bt Thomman in Germany to commemorate their Anniversary (I can't remember which one). The finish is a dipped swirl so every guitar is unique. I appreciate that every piece of wood is unique but you get the picture.

The run included this which they called a natural swirl in SSS configuration and HSS in a blue swirl. Interestingly Fenders Serial number data base is erroneous over these models as mine is listed as Natural Swirl HSS of which there was no such thing.

Originally it came with a black pickguard which I wasn't keen on. I tried mint which looked great in some lights and too green in others. It is now fitted with parchment. I have also swapped the trem for a MIA modern deluxe and fitted MiA string trees. It also has CS Fat 50s.

While the guitar looks and sounds great, and has a nice neck, the body is quite heavy so we don't really get on. I will probably regret it but I don't need 5 Strats so I will most likely return CW to original spec (I'll leave the string Ts) and sell him.
