And then what? Are you really going to cough up $240 a year.

If a family owned music shop in Guildford England can afford to put out weekly videos of 20 minutes or more for free I am disappointed that Fender can't.

I am still confused as to what they think they are offering for $240 a year. You can type "almost any song you can think of tutorial" into YouTube and get a raft of alternatives. Granted some are a great deal better than others but it doesn't cost me $240 and gives me enough for what I need.

If Fender Play was free I would sign up and I would recommend it to my friends and I am sure (if it was any good) they would theirs.

I would be surprised if I found it worth $240 a year. But I won't really know unless I go take a look.

It is the same price as Texas Blues Alley, btw. So it isn't completely unheard of. Although I didn't join that because it was too expensive for my tastes.

There are a number of elements involved - block them individually in Adblocker, and they don't manifest themselves at all.

It's very poor from FMIC - tell the IT folk to roll their collective necks right in, before the membership does one and leaves them high and dry.

I'm close to walking away, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

There does seem to be much less traffic on this site, particularly within the Stratocaster forum.

The Facebook groups, on the other hand, are almost excessive in their posts and close to being an annoyance. I am seriously considering leaving as a result of this deluge. Also there seems far less knowledgeable comment than we receive here.

As discussed previously, while I can appreciate the Fender forum isn't free to run, it does give a solid base on which to distribute product information among contributors. It also provides sound and non biased feedback which must surely be a resource of some value.

It is a great shame there isn't more done to encourage use of the forum rather than being counter productive.

I've finally had enough!
FMIC can shove it where the Sun doesn't shine.
I've had enough advertising being rammed down my throat every time I visit this place.

Adios, Amigos.
Take care all, and don't let the bastards grind you down.

Are you guys talking about popup ads here on the Fender Forum? I use Adblocker which is totally free and never have popup ads anywhere. Some websites won't let you visit unless you disable, but not here.

I was irritated, too, when the pop-up popped up every new page/refresh/anything.
Now that "they" fixed it, I can live with the one time popper on the first visit.
Let your anger be mildened by time, and reconsider the decision to leave.

I know it's no consolation, but the other sites (tdpri and squier-talk) are (although in a different way) even more ad-infected, plus their pic showing policy stinks.

And @ Fender crew, take this ^ kind of messages seriously. This forum lives from members and members only.

Yes indeed Law Flow. It's a great big pop up extolling the (perceived ) virtues of Fender play. It covers your screen every time you visit the site.

I appreciate that the likes of Adblocker may well take it away and quitely shoot it in a dark corner, never to be seen again, but I don't like things lurking in the background of my system.

Do I get the impression Fender are getting a bit desperate to get Fender Play working?

I should think those that signed up at full price (assuming there were any) must be pretty cheesed of that in is now half the price.

I admit I haven't tried it but can't say I was particularly inspired to do so by their free Christmas video.

And the pop ups still annoy the living XXXX out of me.

A shame this topic wasn't posted to the Fender Lounge, where Tele players, offset players, bassists would be more likely to see it and chime in.

Plus it would be nice to see more Fender and music-related threads in the Lounge, instead of all the "what are you wearing right now" threads.

My 2 cents -- the pop up is mildly annoying. The first time I read it, now I just tap the X with my thumb as soon as it pops up.

Probably more annoying on a computer than on my phone, where you'd have to use your mouse and find the X to click it.

Clicking anywhere else but on the pop-up hides that dawggone thang, so at present (repeating my previous) it's tolerable.

From the lounge dpt, a quote:
Brad Traweek - Fender wrote:
Also interesting this past year has been the sheer level of interest around our Fender Play digital learning offering - it, too, is doing quite well and sits as proof positive that there's a robust community out there thirsty for the guitar.

So, maybe that Fender Play will arouse a hefty cash flow for FMIC in 2018, so they can reduce instrument prices dramatically. (They don't have a 'holding my breath' smilie, but that one has a reddish face)

Well, Brad puts on a cheerful face and Fender is doing better than Gibson, but the guitar industry as a whole is struggling. That's why Marshall sells sunglasses and refrigerators that look like JCM800's, why Gibson is trying to rebrand itself as a "lifestyle" company, why Fender sells barstools.

I wouldn't expect Fender Play to lower guitar prices, I just hope it helps FMIC stay afloat. Guitar Center owes FMIC a lot of money and has a lot of their products in stock -- if/when that ship sinks, Fender faces a double whammy. GC would stop paying on their debt to them, and new guitars and amps will be sold at clearance prices.
