I think it would be cool if Fender put out a new line of guitars that are similar to the International Series they had in 1981. They could do the 70's style guitar they've been doing but do new colors like the Capri Orange and Maui Blue. Maybe do a couple new colors every year. Put the black pickup covers, knobs, and switch tip like the originals. MIM to keep the price down.

I know I would buy a few. What about you guys?

Guitar Fetish sells bodys that color, but I would want a real Fender neck for it.

How a guitar looks is a very subjective subject...
I mean, are you really missing Sahara Taupe..? (Which, I must admit, would go well with some present Fender blandcamo colors) 8)

BTW, black plastics are an easy swap (except for some pickup types where the cover won't come off).

I'm pretty much with s52 and JM on this.

The ease with which plastic can be changed makes it almost an irrelevance.

70's look suggests a large head stock, so an American Special (or what ever they are called this week). As such these tend to be good value, short runs of, out of ordinary guitars. So you might be in luck one day.

Colours are very subjective and personal tastes/fashion can change. But, like car colours, something conservative is less likely to jar with people in two years time and devalue, or get left on the shelf, as a result.

If Fender think the world is ready for orange, so they will sell in enough numbers, they will no doubt produce an orange guitar. It doesn't do them, or their distributors, any good to produce a run of guitars which they ultimately blow out at less than cost because nobody buys them.

Strat buyers tend to be a pretty conservative traditional lot - hence the old favourites in the line continue year after year. This also explains why a lot of, seemingly innovative, products have died a death - Strat Plus comes to mind.

It surprises me how some, seemingly obvious, versions only have short runs when, even ignoring their short run "Special" appeal, I would have thought they would sell like hot cakes for a prolonged period. Hard Tails come to mind immediately as do natural and oil finishes. And yet they only make runs of 500 of these once in a Blue Moon. The last MiA Hard Tails were in the "10 for 15" (10 models for 2015) from what I remember. I would have thought their appeal would make them far more obvious as a continued model...but apparently not.

My point is, if they only make short runs of some guitars which would appear to have wide appeal it is unlikely they will run something a bit more off centre....you could always buy a Charvel though.

I think a shortage of Fender models is the least of my worries.
There's a glut of Fender models if you ask me.

Now, if you're just talking about a shortage of available colours, well that's a different story.
I find it tedious and maybe just a bit boring that the great bulk of the (too) many models already available all share the same basic 5 or 6 colour options.
I'm talking MIA models, of course.
Squier models seem to have lots of cool colours.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Just respray it the colour you want. It worked for Hank Marvin. :-)

Not the case.
Hank's was a factory finished guitar that was ordered direct from Fender because there were no Fender dealers in the UK, as there was a trade embargo in effect at the time.
The only way to get American guitars was to order direct from the manufacturer, buy them from US Servicemen posted to the UK, or from Merchant Seamen.

Things changed a short while later, and Selmer Musical Instruments became the importer and distributor of Fender instruments, and Selmers did respray guitars, which was driven by players wanting to emulate Hank.

+1

There's no doubt that the MIM Classic Series '70s Strats could be made available in some new colors. I think they're down to two now -- Olympic White and Natural Ash.
