Hey, I was wondering what to do with pickguard body screws that are completely stripped out. I am thinking of simply putting a little wood glue in the hole then putting the screw in, maybe the glue will recreate the threads. I'm guessing the wood glue will not actually stick to the screw just the wood.

Anyone else have any ideas or tricks? Thanks

It's the old "stuff the hole with toothpicks" trip for you. Squeeze three pointy ends of toothpicks in there, slice off flush to the surface of the lacquer, then insert the screw into the middle of the three tiny dowels. Some would drop a touch of glue in there first to firm it all up: I doubt you need to.

But don't just try gluing the screw in place, good lord, no. And go a little lighter with the screwdriver from now on! :D

Cheers - C

Ceri got me on the draw. lol
Place a toothpick in the hole, mark it there and cut it.
Put it back in the hole thick end down.
Screw the screw in right on it...
The same technique works for strap pegs too...
Some people say to use glue in there too...
I find that glue is not necessary...

Do you sometimes picture us all, around the world, sitting in front of our computers, all furiously typing exactly the same thing simultaneously...

So break off a toothpick tip the same dept as the hole. Then put the tip in with the broken off side first so the pointy side is up.
Is that correct?

I never would have thought to try that. Most of you said just one toothpick tip. I'm gonna start out with one and add more if needed.

I asked for some tips and that's exactly what I got, in more ways then one. Thanks

The idea of using three toothpicks - the skinny, pointy ends, remember, because that screwhole narrows as it goes down - is that then the tip of the screw is kind of guided down the tiny gap in the middle of them, rather than veering to one side and ending up crooked.

Also, I would insert those toothpicks and then carefully slice them off with a craft knife or similar, for a clean job.

...I'm guessing BSS and others are writing this same thing at the same moment I am. Quick, press "submit"!

I always use the round toothpicks. I cut off about 1/4 in. and throw that part away. Put a drop of Elmer's Wood Glue in the hole. Then push the tooth pick into the hole and cut it off even with the top of the guitar.

I just tried it, worked out good, the screw is nice and tight now. I used 3 toothpick tips, cut the tips to 1/4 an inch, put them in pointy side up. I did not have to use any glue.

Thanks guys
