Hi all,

Tried to get hold of the above today (Fender part no 0072290000) in GB. As last year when I bought one for my Special, there's only one GB stockist - or rather, store who's prepared to get one in for you (well done, A Strings!), and he's been told by Fender that they're discontinued!!!

Some Fender sales rep instead directed him (and therefore me) towards the full assembly as fitted to vintage Strats, at three times the price. Apparently oblivious to the fact that the Special / Hwy One has the narrow saddle spacing, they'd quite happily sell me the wrong item...

Two things: 1. Who is Fender employing nowadays? 2. What happens when a Special or Hwy One owner needs to replace their bridge?

I've now ordered one from Angela and will doubtless pay for the privilege (delivery $30 plus Customs fee). I assume/hope they have stock; the order's gone through OK so far.

I know there's a certain amount of pooh-poohing over these Taiwanese trems, but I think they sound very nice. If Fender GB is correct, anyone considering buying one might want to get in quickly!

Cheers - Peter.

Good to know info.
Angela's is top notch customer service in the USA, hope it is just as good to you across the pond.

I think there's a whole bunch of people at FMIC who don't talk to one another......

It could be just a stock issue at Fender.
Another GB seller of Fender bits is First Ave Guitars in Bradford. The Am Spl/Hwy 1 trem is showing as a stock item but out of stock at the moment. http://www.firstguitars.co.uk/shop/fend ... d-saddles/
It's not a bad trem but could be improved by swapping the standard Ping block for the higher mass Fender USA made Highway 1 block which sadly does now seem to be discontinued.

You might be right (let's hope so) but 'A Strings' was definitely told that it was discontinued as opposed to out of stock...

Yes, I've done business with First Ave - bought a SuperVee there - good service.

I've got no experience of the Hwy One block, but the PW36 is steel - magnets stick to it! Much better than the PW29. I still MAY swap it out for one produced by that Welsh Ebay seller - does a cold rolled steel block and sleeved arm for about 35 quid - but (as I said) I'm generally happy with the stock PW36.

Cheers - Peter.

Yes, beautiful unit, but I paid a small fortune (even more now!) for the VN for my Special and found it didn't fit! Seemed to be a routing problem. No response from Mr Callaham and I had to return it, very disappointed. Cost me postage x 2 (in GB). Thank the Lord I didn't have to order it from the US!

I suppose it might fit the Strat I now intend to fit the new trem unit to, but to be honest I really don't want to give him any more business if that's how much he cares about his overseas customers.

Cheers - Peter
