Hello to all.
I've put up my Asat classic tribute for trade with a strat.
One of the responses was a man who wanted to trade his japanese strat.
He inherited it, all he knows is that it's japanese and from the 80's.
He also claims it's close to his MIA, if not equal.
The custom shop neck plate made me kind of suspicious.
Now, my father looked some stuff up, and apparently in '84, CBS leftovers were shipped to Japan, where they were put together. So it could be one of those guitars.

My question is: a) is it an actual fender? b) is it a desirable guitar, you know, with the CBS parts?

If it's (probably) not fake or awfull, I guess i'll go and see if I like it.

(it's on onedrive, i don't know how else to poste images here)

Btw, another guy wanted to trade his Diego SC Deluxe, looks really nice too.

There's no kind way to put this, so I'll be blunt.
The story you've been fed is bullshit.
There were never, ever, any CBS bullet truss rod Strats fitted with vintage Kluson style machine heads.

It may well be a Japanese Strat (and after such a paltry set of photos I'd not really want to go there) of some sort, but the parts did not originate from the USA.

I concur. I've seen many MIJ/CIJ Fender Strats and I own one. Frankly the guitar depicted in the photos looks like a Burns or a Fernandez to me. Fine guitars in their own right but they are not Fenders.

On top of what I've already pointed out, it's a four bolt neck, when it should be three, and the neck plate is a fake Custom shop one.
There should also be a neck tilt assembly fitted.
It might be the angle, but the ashtray bridge cover looks suspect too.

Yeah, I too thought that ashtray looked wonky.

I see. I'm glad I asked it here. Not playing a Fender wouldn't bother me, playing an "imposter" would though. With that in mind, I suppose I'll pass on this one. Thanks!

I think you would be wise as it looks very fishy to me.

In addition to the comments above:- Logo - looks stuck on and is wrong period to be above the lacquer, trem doesn't fit within pickguard cut out, knobs are the wrong shape for the guitar, neck plate ha ha ha ha.

Also the burst and surface timber look a lot like trying to hide the edge of a pre veneered board ie a flat board was veneered before the body was cut out (the cheapest way of doing a veneered body) so the actual timber in the body could be virtually anything. The grain configuration front and back don't seem to tie up so also suggests a veneer finish.

A single ply trem cover with a full cut out? I've not seen that on a Fender as far as I remember.

And it is meant to be a 40 year old guitar and yet the lacquer looks like that!!?? I don't think so. It is completely devoid of any sinking or timber movement and still has fat edges. It isn't even finished as well as a entry model Squier.

On the plus side ... I love a good fake bashing thread.
