Hey everyone!
I'm new here and I noticed that I posted my introduction in the wrong section, sorry for that!

Anyway.. I posted that I'm putting together a red strat, and people where interested in it so that's why I'm starting this thread to keep you updated :)

I've always wanted a red strat, kinda like the Mark Knopfler one but I wanted one before he became my guitar hero ;)
So many many years ago, my brother got me a red strat body as a gift, but then illness struck so I couldn't play for about 2 years and I was even afraid I might never play again.
But I'm back (at least for now) so I thought it would be a shame to just let that red strat body lay there and gather dust, so I decided to finish it once and for all :)

So specs..
I don't remember what the body is made of, and I don't dare to guess either.
Along with that he also got me a Gotoh tremolo, so I decided to get a set of Gotoh vintage style tuners as well to go along with that.
I've decided to try out a set of Fender Vintage Noisless pickups since I fell in love with the sound of them a long time ago when I tried a guitar at a local shop, and I'm gonna buy these from my brother for a family price since he wasn't happy with them ;)

So there has been a lot of stuff that I've gathered up recently, such as the cream pickguard and pickup covers.
I was suppose to have them in plain white but hey, I like the cream look so I thought I'd try it out :)
I just the other day handed over the body and the tuners to a local luthier who is going to build the neck for me, and it will be a one piece maple neck build with the same specs as the PRS SE Custom 24.

The neck will also feature some sort of commemoration for my beloved grandmother, who passed away a month ago.
She was the reason I started playing guitar, and she is and will be missed.

So yeah, there are the basic stuff and where I stand so far in this project :)
Hopfully my local luthier will start building the guitar neck this month, and I will be there with my camera documenting the whole thing :)
If there is anything you guys wonder or wants to know, just ask me and I'll try answer as best as I can :)

Oh, I also tried to "relic" my trem arm with coffee, and yep.. it did not work :P

Sorry for your loss.

So are you keeping the 25.5 scale length?

cool project.

Perhaps your new guitar should have your late grandmothers name engraved on the headstock.

Thanks man.
Yeah I just remember loving my old PRS SE I had 10 years ago, and when I went to a local guitar shop I always love picking up the SE 24 Custom. It plays so nice so I thought yeah, why not try to have a strat neck like that? :)

Yes, me and the luthier came up with an idea that he will make something like for example a heart in pearl, and engrave her name + date of birth and her passing, and build it into the back of the headstock just like an inlay.
So I always see it when I'm playing :)

Nice project,

By the way , I don't know how you'll have PRS feeling with a Strat? These are two different guitars/ world . More than a neck shape.

Thanks :)
Well, I just asked my luthier and he was positive to it and said he had to do some changes, but it could be done having a PRS scale and neck on a strat body.
He will of course make the headstock a classic strat-type.

Personally, I'm not a PRS nerd, I just happened to own a PRS 10 years ago and I loved it, and everytime I play the SE 24 Custom at my local shop.. well it just feels worth getting because of the neck.
So I thought why not? :)

Update:
I visited my luthier today and I got a date: August 7 will work begin on the neck for this guitar, and will probably be done in about 3-4 weeks.

We have settled on making a neck in Fender scale, but with the same profile (and something else that I don't know the name of in English, sorry) as the PRS SE Custom 24.
So I'm really excited about this :)

Looks like you are well on your way to completing a fine guitar. Kudos on wanting to honour your grandmother. I'm sure that will bring you inspiration for all to enjoy, Robin.

Best.

Thanks man, I appreciate your nice comment :)
I think she deserves it, and I miss her of course..
I will actually go down to my luthier tomorrow and pay him a fee to start building this neck, so it's gonna be awesome :)

Thanks bro :)
I'm looking forward to share stuff here with you too.
Since I'm a photographer as well, I'm probably going to take some photos during the time he's building the neck, so hopfully I will have more stuff to put up here soon :)

Wow, it's been a while since I were here. Hope all is well with you good people?
There hasn't been any news on this project since last time I was here, unfortunately..

So I've had to cancel the neck build because he never got around to it and I was sick of waiting for so damn long, so I'm actually just gonna by a nice black Squier Bullet Strat (Bullet because I prefer the smaller headstock) and just rip the neck off it and use that one for my red build.

Gonna put the Gotoh vintage style tuners on, install the new electronics together with the Vintage Noisless pickups and this beauty is ready to rock :)

I do have plans for the black Squier body as I was thinking of putting together a pure Metal Strat and install the Seymour Duncan Nazgul or Pegasus in the bridge position and pair it up with the Sentient in the neck position.
I haven't decided on what I'm gonna use in the middle but probably a single coil of some sort.
I kinda like the HSS combination I have on my other strat and like to combine the middle-bridge or bridge-neck to give some punch but still keep the melody beautiful and clear.

So it's gonna be interesting to see how this HSH will turn out :)
Let me know if you want to see more of that project as well :)

Hey there, Robin. Looks like you have your second project figured out well for the pickups as they compliment each other.

Keep us posted on those projects. It’ll be good to see how you made out. :D

Hey thanks dude :)
Yeah I've been thinking on that project for a little while, just didn't want to start on it before I finish this one off first :)
I've never had a black Strat and I'm really fond of Janick Gers so I figure I'd make my own Metal Strat, so you know.. got to be a black one ;)

I'm just not sure if I'm gonna go with the Nazgul or the Pegasus in the bridge, do you have any thought on it?
I would like to use the character of the Pegaus in the middle but I don't know if that works?
In my mind that would be a perfect match, with the heavy sound of the Nazgul mixed together with a more clean beautiful tone of the Pegasus in the middle... I don't know, just feels like they would compliment each other well.
