Hi I'm looking for some advise, a couple years ago a student of mine decided to use my MiM surf green 59's reissued strat as a battle axe needless to say it's been placed in the grave in my closet. Recently however I have decided to fix it. The neck is done and I'll have to order a new one but the question I had was about the body. Everything works hardware wise it's just that its got a few chunks and dings in it. Some of the paint/lacker has chipped away but other then that it looks just beat up. Should I just leave it the way it is? Should I sand the rough chunk spots? Is it ok to use? Just needed some opinions thanks!!!

I agree leave it.
You can get touch up pens etc.
Most of my attempted repairs particularly with nitro have led to them looking worse due to the fact that for me most of the products are difficult to come by. :D

I cannot adequately diagnose the patient without first examining him......

Get some pics up.

+1, if the neck was damaged beyond repair well, seems the student was using the wrong end of the hammer.

Indeed.

If the neck was wrecked I am wondering about the condition of the neck pocket. If that is damaged you won't get a good connection between the new neck and the body.

How many months was the student in intensive care after the incident?

With regard to whether you should repair it or leave it (assuming it is practical to use at all) that is pretty much up to you. It doesn't matter what a guitar looks like if it makes you happy. Does the incident amuse you? If so leave it as is, revel in the memory, and enjoy recounting it to all who will ask. If it anoys you then refinish it. Only you can know.

He'd be a permanent resident at a hospice facility plugged into various cardio-pulmonary machines, were it my guitar.
