Hi everyone,

I have this strat body that I bought for 60-70$ 3 years ago and that was in such a rough shape. I decided last week to make something of it but after removing all the paint I'm wondering if it's genuine , it was supposed to be a mexican body . What do you guys think ? The paint ( poly ) was a pain in the $@! to remove , so thick and hard, I even burned the wood at some spot with the heat gun ( I messed up ) . Also I can barely see any writing on the neck pocket ( can see '91' wrote and a few other almost erased stuffs ) ...
And to finish, to complete this total mess , I can see some cracks on the body between the wood parts because of the heat from the heat gun ...
Anyway, first of all, if anyone can tell me if he thinks it's a genuine fender body or some random fake stuff that would be great, thanks a lot by advance ! :)

I'm not sure why you're asking; 3 pc body, obviously paint grade, routed HSS, 11 hole guard. I wouldn't put any money into it.

It does not look like a typical mexi body but it may be part of the mexi squier series.
If you look at the neck pocket it appears to have a stamp the last letters may be ER as in squier :)

I would suggest it isn't a Fender body of the last 10(?) years as it doesn't have the CNC location routs.

It isn't a pre CNC body as it doesn't have pattern pinning holes.

I haven't seen so many holes in the neck pocket on a Fender.

I'd put my money on not Fender.

+1

I noticed that as well. I wouldn't regard it as conclusive one way or another though since the general layout otherwise seems to be correct, to include the "Mickey Mouse" neck pocket rout. I'd go ahead and smooth it down, throw a nice opaque finish on it, then assemble it into a playable Strat (or SLO as the case may ultimately be).

I wish he'd shown a photo with the pickguard removed.

:(

I agree. Based on the neck pocket only, stamp and indeed holes, it looks a lot like the Squire Series in the article.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter where it came from if the component fit and weight are right for you. I am even given to wonder if a three piece body isn't better than two.

Thanks everyone for the answers, very interesting to read as I'm pretty much of a newbie with strats . So Squier or Fender is still to determined but what is obvious is that it's some mexican bottom of the line body .
Anyway, I like this body, good weight ( a bit heavy but I like it ) and what seems to be poplar wood is not worst than alder. I have a brand new fender mounted pick guard with the 'vintage noiseless pickups' that almost fits ( just have to redo one hole ) and a few other new fender elements that gonna be great on that body after it's done . As I'm a professional illustrator I really wanted to do something unique ( but with good taste :) )on this one . I'll post photos when it's done
thanks again
