It's a gorgeous instrument. The Tele as well.

The OP says he may have been mistaken about whether it was a AS or not.
I doubt it would have been an AD due to the colour but if it was it would have come with the pop-in arm.

FYI
In that era there were both American Deluxes and MIA Plus Deluxes, a distinction that once created lots of confusion in the used market.
There were people who thought their guitars were one step higher than an AD.
They figured they had an AD+, like an extra special version of the AD.
In truth, the MIA Plus Deluxe was roughly two price ranges below an AD, sort of like a Hwy One in a way.

On the color of this guitar, the Sonic was just a guess (and computer screens lie). Both blue tones (pun intended) were available, so I'll believe Daphne just as well.

Now, that made me dig deeper...
In that "era", yes - but not specifically in 1996.
I checked the archived pricelists on support pages to be sure. The first mention of American Deluxe models is in the July 15th, 1998 list - and that's also when the "Plus" series was dropped according to e.g. Xhefri. Before that, MIA Strat Pluses and Strat Plus Deluxes (and Mexican Deluxes).
Pricewise, a Strat Plus in January 1998 was 1199$, a Plus Deluxe 1499$, an American Deluxe in July 1399$.
In 1996, a Plus was 1179.99$, a Deluxe Plus 1449.99$, (and an Ultra, 1799.99$) but no "simply Deluxe" MIA.

The Highway Ones came a lot later (2003), but yes, there were Lonestars, Big Apples, Roadhouses etc. below that Plus/Deluxe Plus/AmDlx price levels to proceed it.

The Pluses/Deluxe Pluses would not have pickup pole pieces showing, they were Laced.

But were straying way pretty far from the topic...

Hmmm ....
Now I have to dig deeper.
I'm pretty sure I once owned an AD Tele from '97, which I bought new at AXE.
Still not '96 but not '98 either.
It was around that time, or maybe a bit later, that I started saving all my receipts from gear acquisitions.
Maybe tomorrow I'll dig around and see if I have that one.
I did own an '89 MIA Tele Plus Deluxe so I know they were around for a while.
Speaking of that guitar, I seem to have an ability to find curiously odd guitars.
My '89 came stock with a Gold Lace at the neck and everything I've ever read about them indicates they came with Blue Lace.
My '98 Strat is also a bit of an oddity.
It came with satin finish locking machines and every other one I ever saw came with bright chrome.

Well good work on the spring front.
Some place a dab of grease or bend the spring slightly to hold it in place.
I am thinking you have an American Standard since the Series name for pretty much the same guitar was introduced in 2000.
A lot of the 95 and 96 guitars have that silver stickon medallion.
It represents another fender anniversary and should not be confused with any special anniversary run e.g 50th ann strat etc.

I know that there is confusion concerning anniversary model and that sticker.
Mine is "Fender anniversary", not "Stratocaster anniversary".
I checked on the Fender site and from the S/N, it comes from 96'.

That said, Std, +, Deluxe... what ever the model name, I don't care too much. I love it, it sounds great and I'm happy with that :D
I tested lot of models (new or used) and this was my final choice. I can't explain why or just by one word : feeling

Have all a great musical week-end

That's how most of us quantify our choice of a guitar.

Attaboy, that's the spirit. Don't mind us on the forum drifting astray and blabbering endlessly about model details, play on, play LOUD.

PS: The Product Registration Serial Number Search Database seems to cover end-of-nineties MIA instruments pretty well...

Guys,

To conclude, from the link Product Registration Serial Number Search Database :
American Standard Stratocaster®

Serial #: N6130949

Brand: Fender

Product Category: Guitars

Product Type: Stratocaster®

Now it is clear.
