Hello,

I bought few weeks ago an American std 96 Strat and the tremolo arm string was missing. I bought the original one (717669506995) but it doesn't fit in the hole.
I mean that once in place, I can't install (screw) the arm anymore. It seems that the spring doesn't go so deeper in the hole avoiding the arm to reach the beginning of the thread, so I can't screw it.
I looked inside the hole with my old eyes but I can't see anything avoiding that.
Any clue ?

Thx in advance
Pascal

96 American Standard may use plug in tremolo arm IMO. No screw arm.
Is it original arm ?

Picture may help

If bridge use screw arm ;
Look with very small and long pin or screwdriver what happened with the hole, inside

1- There must have something inside you can't see. What else ?
2- The original spring is there.

What happen if you screw the arm with no spring ? Can you ? how it work ? You did not say anything about that.

Does the trem arm screw into the hole without the new spring? That would indicate the old spring is in the hole, not missing.
Anyways, you got something in that hole - could even be a piece or a broken trem arm. Or just someone's used a lot of plumber's tape.

Dig deeper.

Guys,

Thx for your quick feedback.
I wrote "American std" but this can be another model. The guy who sold me it, told me this was this model.

I can screw the trem bar without problem but it is loose. I need to make a lot of turn before to stop it. So I guess there is nothing inside even the old spring.

I'll try to put pictures.
BTW, English is also not my native language, so...

EDIT : You're right, after to look deeper with a more adapted light, I can see that the old spring is stuck inside the hole
Now, how to remove that f.... guy ?

You may have not a American made Fender or not a Fender guitar that is why this Fender spring don't fit in this "no name bridge" ?

Picture are a must.

Bingo :D

The old spring was well inside the hole. I was able to remove it using a BTR screw driver 1.3mm.
I inserted a new spring and that's perfect.

You raised me a doubt, so I looked on the Net. This is what they call "Fender 50th Anniversary American Series Stratocaster", not American Std.

Thx for your help and have a great week-end

Photos of your instrument would help us confirm that.

@stratele52, AmStd's with screw-in arm to be accompanied by the tension spring, AmDlx's with the pop-in. That's my memory, an I'm too lazy to check right now - midsummer fest and all.

@Awazleon, glad you got the problem solved.

Pics are always nice - we could settle the model for you. Wife pics, too if you feel the need, although the model on those is harder to recognize.

That's an AmStd, color probably Sonic Blue.
(And come to think of it, the 1996 Deluxes from America would have been Plus Deluxes...)

As far I know, it is called "Daphne blue". But I'm could be wrong. There is a small gold/red sticker on the back of the head saying "Celebrating 50th of excellence"
