For those that are going to wait in line and shell out 5K for this guitar, I salute you. But you could easily save yourself a ton of $$ by building one of your very own. Rethink this people!!!

Seriously, what is this instrument going to give you that another won't?

I am probably the biggest Gilmour fan on the planet and have seen him a number of times, but will I buy this guitar. No.

Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful piece of musical equipment, but it will NEVER be David's. Even if he personally autographed it, and played it for 5 minutes. As I stated in another post, it's like buying a paint brush like Picasso used. Sure you can paint a beautiful picture with it, but you will never paint like Picasso. For me the beauty of an instrument lies in the time that it takes you to save for it, play it, modify it, and cut your teeth with it, and put your OWN dents and scratches in it and ultimately make it YOUR OWN. Buying a contrived piece of equipment for 5K is a total waste. If Fender really wanted to help the cause, they would have made an affordable model, or at least dontated a portion of the profits to one of David's many charities. That would be money well spent.

I saw the REAL thing when it was hanging in the Hard Rock. It was beautiful, and no where near what this instrument is.

Why don't you get over it. You seem to be completely obsessed with anyone buying this guitar. You have only been on this forum for a few days and all you talk about is how this is not Davids guitar. I think we all understand that. Are you jealous or what? It is a custom shop guitar and try as you may , you will never build one. Get on with it and over it .!!! You can't afford it or what ? Fender is not out to please you!! :!: or give away thier profits. The DG strat is one of the least costly of the custom shop guitars. Do you feel the same about all the other CS guitars? Most are more exspensive. Is it wrong to buy them too? They won't make you sound like your idol and its not "really" their personal guitars!! I'm sure you could make one though.
I just checked all of your 12 post and the majority were complaining about the DG strat!!!!!!!!!!! Whats up with that??? Nothing else to contribute to this forum?
Peace ! :)

This is true. This is going to be a very high-profile guitar for Fender. They are going to have thier best luthiers on this baby. Luthiers with much more skill and much more resources than us...

For me, this guitar is not the cat's meow anyway. The all black and the short trem are not my preferences. But, again, those are just my preferences. Although, I definitely would not mind putting one through its paces. It will be fun to hear feedback about it, though. I take my hat off to their future new owners, though. Congrats!

Oh I'm sure it'll be a dream to play. For me the added value just isn't there.

Go easy there. Am I jealous no, can I afford one, yes. Will I buy one? No? I own a fender that I have had for 40+ years. It is worth three times what that guitar is worth. IMHO, custom shop guitars are fine instruments, beautiful pieces of modern technology. But again IMHO, if you are going to invest in something, invest in a SURE thing. I can only hope that the DG guitar will be worth the same many years from now. Time will tell.

BTW
If you are going to quote The Beatles, you need to add “And” to the beginning of your quotation.
Peace to you as well

Thanks for teaching about the Beatles Ha! I own several Fine Fender and Gibson guitars and have also been doing it over 40 years. Some of them exspensive and some not as exspensive. But I have never ( please check my post) said anything but good things about other peoples guitars or choice of guitars. I am happy for them all. You just seem to have a serious problem with anyone who does not think like you. You should learn what some of the Beatles were saying. Remember "I, Me Mine"? You really do seem obsessed with every aspect of this guitar, cost, how its made,( I know you can make one just like it), it will never be Davids guitar, the toggle is nothing special and to top it off you have the nerve to tell FMIC whom to and how to give chairity. Amazing!! To each his own. Also such a catchy name, Which one's Pink. I suggest you study my signature line a little closer and try to understand it instead of critizing it because it does not start the way you think it should.
I have no more to say to you about it. I will wish you more love, understanding and peace in your life. Your Friend anyway!! :)

And to please you and the above poster I will add the word "AND" to my sig. Anything else I can do for you fellow forum members?
And don't worry about my investments .I am buying the guitar because I want it, not for an investment. Something wrong with that?

Buy away mate. you dont have to justify your purchases to anyone. personaly myself i cant see the attraction in the dg strat, but then again i dont like floyd. I imagine it will be more than capable at other non floyd sounds too. I just bought a les paul copy to hang on my wall, i've never played it, its not in tune, it looks nice and its my choice. Just the same as a dg strat is your choice as is what you decide to do with it.

Thanks man, as I said I have several other strats. I believe I have a lot of different sounds covered. The DG is going to be played along with the rest and not babied. It's not an investment for profit.
I do offer my apologies to the forum members for my rant. It was uncalled for and not at all lke me.
Appreciate your input! :) 8)

[quote="Which one's Pink?"] Seriously, what is this instrument going to give you that another won't?

The first Signature Series guitar produced by Fender was the Eric Clapton model which he used professionally for years. The prototype 'Blackie' which followed both the red and pewter guitars he perfomed with, was sold at the now famous auction as part of his collection, represented as his main stage guitar until its upgrading with the new pickups.

No where in the Fender line was anyone going to get that mix of neck and electronics unless they purchased THAT instrument. True, it has evolved over the past 19 years, but still retains the 'vibe' of the artist's choice.

The Gilmour 'Black Strat' serves the same purpose in that it has had artist's input right from it's inception and has been offered to his audience in its present incarnation with his approval. In this case, it is close, but never will be THE Black Strat because that guitar has been made over several times. Yet, the artist has represented to his audience that he is satisfied with this guitar such that he has performed with it, much as Eric did with the Tribute 'Blackie.'

Paying for the production of a custom built instrument to the specifications of the artist involved is what the Custom Shop asks of its patrons. If that's not your vibe, be kind enough in your critique so as not to rain on everyone else's parade.

This guitar is a long time coming to a dedicated audience which seeks a close association with a brilliant and creative artist who, with his colleagues , have produced a spectacular body of work, and have has impacted on more than just our ears.

They've been part of the revolution in the way music is recorded and performed.

Thanks for your thoughts Doc, I should not have gone into such a rant like I did.

Peace! F :)

Also does not Townsend play a EC and he definitely does not sound the same as Eric.

Hey...you call it like you saw it!.

Your are correct regarding Townsend. There was also a URL posted on a prior thread to a YouTube interview w/his tech. The guitar is also equipped with a Roland synth.

The guitar does not define the artist. It augments the artist. If you follow EC's discography vis a vis sound you know that the first Strat has a totally different vibe. The purpose behind the new concept using this 25db midboost was to give him the meat of a humbucker. Everything recorded with this new hardware as a completely different feel. Not to mention the evolution of the amps and amp mods he's had to work with. Bassman's and Tweed Twins??? On the surface perhaps, but I guarantee the tweaking is a formula his audience will likely never learn unless Lee Dickson writes a tell all autobiography of his career.

I kind of wish I would have bought a tweed twin or a vibro king instead of the twin reverb ri . I SHOULD HAVE DONE MY HOMEWORK MORE ,as in the same vid. i think your talking about Townsends tech said the vibro king was his staple amp. Oh well, maybe the next one or two. Haa!
