You have air between the bridge plate and body?
It's no wonder you have problems.
You should try setting it up the way the Custom Shop do it.

You're making far too big a deal of what is a very simple thing to do.

Though not a wobbler I'm not keen on decking.

I have no personal sighting on the matter, but the distinguished Clapton experts on the forum have educated me (among others) with the invaluable piece of information that Mr. C. actually doesn't use the wood wedge at all, but is satisfied with decking.

reduces the leverage of high saddles

If high saddles become a problem, you could try shimming the neck, shim in the body end of the neck pocket. Generally, I prefer high saddles; I believe the added 'downforce' gives better sustain & sound & playability, cures a headache, give us the greens of summers, mows the lawn and so on.
And the 2mm below the trem plate; might work on a 2-point trem but not on a six screw one - in my humble opinion.

Tremolo No isn't ringing any bells for me.

I've heard the name, but the product is quite unknown: Tremol-No™ homepage
The Hipshot™ Tremsetter I met on a Strat Plus way back then. IMHO, it's not a must have item - but the guitar was so nice I didn't pay much attention to the embellishments.

I've never personally seen the need for such a contrivance but I've played with a few guys who swore by them religiously.

I think the idea is that it makes it easy to switch between blocked and being able to pull and dive.
I have a system like that too; I call it two guitars.

When I need rock-solid tuning I'll pull out a hardtail.

On a Tremsetter? No, it's a system of two springs replacing one of the original springs to help find the 'zero point' between push/pull the trem easier. (I couldn't be more complicated explaining...)
The reason I don't find that necessary is that a well setup Strat doesn't need the extras. The manufacturer gives also the usual 'better sustain, sound' etc. liturgy, but all Pluses I've played sounded great, so go figure.

Nah, I was thinking of the Tremol-No. Which undoubtedly works - it only takes a minute to switch between blocked and not, but it is just as quick to pull out a wedge, and even quicker to just switch guitars...
