So...I was looking at CW, my FSR MiM, and noticed a hole in the trem cavity on the back wall, parallel with the face of the guitar, right in the middle. It is almost as if the strap screw hole had bee drilled with a foot long bit.

It occurred to me that I could put a wood screw in this hole with the head projecting and use it to block the trem.

Surely there must be a reason why this wont work because it seems too easy. People spend hours finely honing bits or hardwood or taping together the exact number and types of coins to get exactly the right size blocking when, seemingly, 1 hole, 1 screw and "job's a good'n".

I must be missing something here because it seems too obvious.

Thank's, first time I see, and I have few Strats. Maybe is because a Special run or newer Strat ?

I don't know how you can use it to block tremolo.

Well, if you put a screw in the hole, but didn't screw it all the way in, it would stick out and you could rest the trem block against it. Perhaps.

We can do that with any guitar, just make a hole if the guitar don't have one.

To me the easiest way is to screw down bridge to the body and tighen the 2 claw screws with four springs on it .
No need of wood block, I tried both.

Exactly. But I have never heard of it being done and am wondering why as it seems easier than creating a block.

Some people prefer not to deck the trem and block it instead

Some says a wood block will give a better contact between tremolo and body.
I agree.

Do you hear it ?

I mean, the steel head of the screw touching tremolo block....
How to tighten this screw with no access to its head ?
Wise grip pliers on the thread ?

Well, you could measure the gap, remove the block, and then screw in the screw to the appropriate depth.

If one were to use a coach screw you could then adjust it with a spanner.

It all seems so simple, and potentially effective, that I don't understand why I haven't heard of it being done before.

This will not work, mesuring a gap is not like pushing on the tremolo block.

A perfectly shaped wooden trem block blocker is traditional, beautiful and functional, and shows dedication & love to the guitar and skills (especially when made out of grainmatched body wood, painted Sunburst, Candy, GoldLeaf etc. to match the guitar - and equipped with a little screw for easy removal).
A screw... blahh - I wouldn't like to screw up a guitar. Who cares if it's simple, it ain't proper... Might as well just tension the trem claw springs...
BTW, a hex end screw can be adjusted while the trem is mounted. Drilling a straight angle hole in the cavity, that's where this might go sour.

But come to think of it, who am I to judge. Who da block fit, and so on... Trems have been blocked with just about anything. Coins. Cork. Eraser. Zippo. And this:
