Hi guys.
Just been going over my custom shop strat in more detail
Since its arrival a few weeks back. I've nocticed a few of the pick up strews was high. I've check them all and they don't actually tighten up that well and I didn't want to over tighten them, is this correct?. Just worried they have been over tighten at the factory. Also as anybody had issues with the paint finish on custom shop, mine as very slight pitting etc. ive Been told its because it's custom made and a thinner paint is used in which you can get slight inperfection in the finish. Any input will be great.

The only screws on Stratocaster single coil pickups are for height adjustment, and I get the feeling you're not asking about that. Won't start guessing further, please explain what you mean.

On the paint "pitting" issue, those pics you promised in your previous topic might help.

Do you mean pickguard screws?

It is a knack to get them just right as, if you over tighten them you bow the plastic. Not really an issue but reflections look a bit poor and it annoys me. Ideally I want them tight enough so that they wont come loose but not over tight. They are small screws into wood so if you get carried away you will strip the wood or the screw or both.

Yup the thin paint finish on a Custom Shop is one of the things you pay extra for. It is dead easy to make thick paint look shiny. You put loads on and then polish it down until it is like glass. Very thin paint (which is good for tone) is much much more difficult to deal with. Also, because the timber isn't sealed into a hard shell of resin like paint, it can move. When the timber moves this will be witnessed on the surface. This is a good thing, it is what you paid extra for.

Thanks for this guys. Understand about the paint. The screws at the side of the pick ups down really tighten up, is this a problem I need to raise you think. Struggle to upload pictures.

Apart from muck it up?

Another thing that you pay for with a Custom Shop instrument is a trained Luthier setting the guitar up. The PUP's (pick ups) will have been set at the optimum height for the type of PUP. Why are you trying to raise/drop them?

Between the PUP and the underside of the scratch plate are little rubber tubes to keep tension on the fixing/adjustment bolts. It you keep tightening these eventually the PUPS will be at a height where the tubes cant compress any more and you will strip the holes in the back plate of the PUP. This is not the best thing to do.

Forgive me for asking but why did you buy a Custom Shop guitar?
