Other than the bridge pickup which will be a Super Distortion, I need a recommendation on the neck and middle pickups.

I'm going for metal and heavy sounds, with occasional cleaner sounds.

I was thinking of a JB or JB Jr in the neck, and a Hot Rails in the middle. What do you think?

Interesting.....and to think that they built this guitar for a more modern sound.

Fender should produce a line of finished guitars less electronics. It seems to be the most frequently upgraded component. They could call it the 'Minus Series': e.g: SSS-minus; SSH-minus; HH-minus; HSH-minus;

To boot, it would save on having all of that swapped out gear, laying around in a drawer, or cluttering up Ebay looking for a new home.

Doc

Good idea Doc but how much would that cut into the Custom Shop Business?

It sounds like you might want something hotter for the neck position to match the bridge, say at about 10.2K ohms and then go with something at about 7-8K ohms for the middle position.

If you really wanted to get more tones, you could put in an E-Megaswitch and wire it for seven positions. :?:

Totally different genre and niche, I would think. You order a guitar with/without the powerplant, hopefully, at a lesser cost.

Just look at the line. If you analyze the product carefully, it is really a series of variations on a theme....like 'mix in " ice cream. They would provide the basic flavors, you provide the rest.

Most of the line today is an HSH routing with a 9.5 radius modern "C'' neck, for economies of production anyway. It's so repetetive, its almost boring which, in my estimation, is the impetus for all this modding.

Of course, you could do the same with Warmoth, but it wouldn't be Fender, which is what most players want.

Doc

Ah now I understand. Ice Cream metaphores help. Thanks for the explanation Doc.

hmm, the hot rails on the neck sounds pretty good...

What about a Li'l Screamin' Demon SLSD-1 for the middle?
It is described as 'glassy' for better harmonics...

Try to get something that balances, say Fender Hot Noiseless maybe?\

I have a pretty hot humbuckere in my valley arts strat (Dimarzio FRED) and the Hot Noiseless keeps up.

Let us know what you get!
