nice guitar, and welcome! Have you explored Xhefri's site? http://xhefriguitars.com/page2.html#C14
Acoording to X, the earliest 90's didn't say Ultra on the neckplate.

$1500 is the bluebook value in mint for an Ultra from last years book. "Crimson Burst" is the book color.
But as stated above no one has done more research on the Strat Plus series of guitars and posted it as Xhefri's site. I think you could get more than book personally.

Hello
Yes I've explored X and this is what he says about the colour and the date it was produced
Quote:
This color is listed on Fender’s sales charts for the Plus series from 1991 through 1992, BUT, in saying that I have seen some date stamped late 1989 up into mid-1992.

And I'l sure when I bought it in early 1990...

Priced on these have been all over the place. I think the whole Firestorm "firestorm" on the forums hurt the value of these and it is just now starting to swing back around. But unfortunately that negative info is still out there when you search on Google. I get emailed regarding these around once every 2 weeks.

I bought a mint Firestorm Ultra for $1800 a while back, which I consider a great deal. I wouldn't part with it for less than $2500- $2600. I have seen beat ones sell for $1500 with the silver showing through the finish from belt rash, to cleaner ones selling for $1800+. Hard to find these in mint condition. I am holding on to my Firestorm Ultra and Tele. Wonderful finishes.

Just to clear any misconception of my earlier post quoting the BB price, I was referring to a Crimson Burst in mint condition.
The rarity of the Ultra in Firestorm and unfortunately the # of fakes will lead to price swings.
Xhefri, any idea of the quantity of Ultras actually made by Fender in Firestorm, I'd guess somewhere around 50 to maybe 100?

Also, this one is not mint. "Very minor impression's to the top of the head-stock and some minor Pick Swirling on the Scratch-plate" means it's used. And the professional setup too prevents it from being mint.
Mint means that an expert cannot tell whether it's straight from the factory or not. Call it "excellent condition", but not mint. Accordingly, the price will be lower.

Oh, and it's not unique either. More than one firestorm was made, which means it's not unique.

True, mint is within the top 1% and excellent is the top 1-5%.
Great reminder of verbiage Arth.

You guys have the same thought as me, well at least almost. First off, don't you just love it when you see an older guitar advertised as: "In MINT Condition!" Then they go on to list all the fret board peeling, dings and dents the guitar has! Then they say something like, "Of course, none of this affects the playability of the guitar!" To me "mint" means basically untouched and uncirculated—like gigged or played frequently. A guitar can have a set-up and still be mint.

But after stating that, The Blue Book of Guitars is a bit less picky and says this about collectible guitars: "98% - Mint, 9.8 - Only very slightly used and/or played very little - may have minor "case" wear or very light dings on exterior finish only, without finish cracking, very close to new condition, also refers to a currently manufactured instrument that has previously sold at retail, even though it might be unplayed."

I perfer to say, New Old Stock would be mint but according to the Blue Book of Guitars, most of my guitars would be MINT! LOL!!! Like this Firestorm Ultra I have, basically an unplayed. I have rarely seen a "use" guitar that was truly in mint/unplayed condition! The point is, I am too OCD to say that about a guitar, unless it is true. If I say a guitar is "near mint" that will mean it is as nice as most new guitars you would see hanging in a music store.

That's more like CDO!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

That's my understanding of "mint" condition. It tells me it's never been played. Just like mint coins that have never been circulated and kept in some protective housing like plastic or whatever. It's not mint if it has pick swirls and dings on the headstock. That would be considered used in good condition (maybe excellent if no dings).

Xhefri, I finally figured out, BOB refers to Blonde On Blonde, in reference to the Strat that Dylan used when he went electric at Newport '65!
