So, according to the Fender website a strat I am looking at was built in 1976

500,000s to 700,000s 1976

However, when using this database search on their site: https://www.fender.com/product-registra ... ial-search

It comes back as being 1975

So which is it?

Hold it closer to the screen so we can all have a look!
From what I can see at this end it's a fake.....

12/75 or 1/76. Would it sound any different? If so better or worse. Looks to be fake from here.

There's been some issues with that Fender data base of late and you're not the first to end up with ambiguous data. Hopefully the Scottsdale IT guys will get around to fixing it.

A couple of months difference based on a serial number is nothing exceptional with Fender, so a fundamentally 1976er may have actually been built late 1975, any time 1976 or early 1977...

The registration serial number search engine seems to work "usually", but has glitches. Plus, there is the factor that some serial numbers were recycled (e.g. the T or U plus six digits ones on MIJ's...).

For guitars from 1993 and later, the most reliable source of info seems to be emailing consumerrelations@fender.com but even they don't cover every guitar made, or are not 100 % accurate.
For earlier models, often this & other forums can help.
