Hi

I tried to install a mid boost kit in my 91 US strat yesterday, but couldn't fit the board in. So I removed the middle pickup to make space, I hardly ever use it and am curious if I can get a Tele middle kind of sound by combining neck a bridge of the strat.

How would I need to wire it then?

Tx

Jan

I'm absolutely no wiring expert, but let's see if this reply gets the topic rolling...

Basically, you'd need a Telecaster wiring diagram with that EC mid-boost circuit added. The idea been discussed in the tdpri.com, but they have not come up with a solution...
But there's one Tele diagram you maybe could use as a base for a new layout/diagram; Andy Summers Tribute Tele Wiring

It would be nice if you'd report back on the situation - whether you use that diagram or not.

You could possibly use a switch and follow a super strat wiring diagram but I'm not sure how to incorporate the mid boost into the equation. As for the tele sounds, I had a strat that combined the two and it didn't sound like a tele to me. YMMV. As for the board not fitting, if you snip one corner right across the screw hole, it will go into the cavity.

Clapton without the middle PUP!

If it really won't fit then why not block the trem and use the spring cavity.

I hesitate to reply .. it brings back such terrible memories of frustration and hopelessness ..

I implore you .. DO NOT do this .. save yourself .. it's too late for me ..

Anyway my " Hot Rod Brownie" build .. forerunner of Fenders "Journeyman" .. (great minds think alike?) .. has a Clapton Mid-Boost installed in the control cavity of a Fender AVRI Hot Rod 50's body .. With all three pickups ..

The Mid-Boost wiring is a little delicate .. hence the cable tie .. and the Socket cavity needed a little "wallering" to fit the stereo jack in there properly .. otherwise no mods to the body ..

I passed on the TBX tone control .. for lack of credibility on my part and space .. and installed a Push Pull dpdt switch instead of a normal Tone 2 .. to enable Bridge On ..

It's on ebay now as a testament to how little appreciation you can expect .. but everybody who has actually played it wants it .. that makes it worthwhile .. Good Luck ..

Here are some pics:
